Introducing Dr. Jen Boyle!

Dr. Jen has a passion for Orthopedic rehabilitation after recovering from her own injuries as a young athlete. Because of this, she has the desire to be the best Physical Therapist for her patients. In order to accomplish this goal she completed a rigorous 1-year residency program in Virginia to master her manual therapy skills and now is a Board-Certified Specialist in Orthopedic PT.

In her spare time Jen enjoys being outside participating in activities such as hiking, swimming, kayaking and snowboarding. She also loves spending time with her family, friends and her dogs Xena and Barkley!

LOW BACK PAIN: Get PT First

The majority of cases of low back pain can be fixed with physical therapy intervention and proper education. All too often, people will waste their money and time and spend an extra 6+ weeks in pain prior to getting to see a PT. It’s the way our medical system was initially set up in a time where PTs weren’t “doctors”. It is outdated and unnecessary for many reasons:
-PT will help you figure out WHY you had the pain
-We can screen you to see if it is something non musculoskeletal, at which point we can direct you to the right specialist quickly
-most times, the “medical diagnosis” isn’t super important; the answer is typically in your movement patterns and your daily habits, regardless of whether it’s a “muscle spasm” or “disc issue”
-a good ortho will likely prescribe therapy anyway, and you don’t need a prescription in NJ to seek PT care; so why waste the time and money if you don’t have to
-the longer the pain is present, the more time it may take for it to improve.
Time is of the essence.
-there is no “low back pain exercise” that fits all. The reason you and I have pain is very different. The way that your body responds is likely very different. Sometimes, cleaning up hip or ankle restrictions will get rid of your back pain. Sometimes, changing one thing about your daily habits will do the trick. So your internet search for “low back pain exercises” may yield something that is a waste of time for YOU specifically
-too many doctors may tell you to “just rest” when in fact the answer frequently is to move often, just perhaps alittle differently.

And so that’s why we as PTs exist - to advise you on how to do that and serve as a guide to expedite the healing process. It’s just one aspect we love about what we do.

TeleHealth: Diagnosis and Treatment Plan Administered and Monitored Virtually⠀

COVID-19 has brought in a new wave of clinicians going virtual to help patients and clients reach their goals from afar. This option though supersedes pandemic needs. We have found that we are able to help people reach their goals from all around the world by conducting video calls and evaluating people from the comfort of their own home. It can save you time, money, and the stress of an in person visit.⠀

As essential employees, we are still open to serve our community. However, if you live too far away or are staying at home at this time, we can still help you virtually!⠀

Our team is different because we will go above and beyond to help you - and after your initial visit, we will continue to follow your case and progress your plan to help you reach your goals and eliminate your pain and symptoms. ⠀

Send us a DM if you want to learn more!

Our physical therapy clinic remains open to patients at this time! However, time slots are limited and our Doctors are thoroughly screening to see if you’re a good candidate for in person therapy services.

Telehealth is a system where our medical team can evaluate you, update your program, educate you and give you lifestyle and exercise recommendations, and even run you through a personalized treatment session or workout program! It’s been really fun thus far, as some of our patients and clients can attest to.

Some insurance are covering these services. If they don’t, we will make it very reasonably priced. It is our goal to help you stay active, stay healthy, and continue working towards your goals at this uncertain time. If this interests you, you can reach out via email, phone or on Instagram to schedule a virtual appointment.

Technique Tuesday: Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilizations (IASTM)

Ah, the old stainless steel tools! Our patients love it (after we’re done). One of the many ways we like to work on soft tissue structures and help get you healing a little bit faster. We use this method to increase blood flow, reduce tension in muscles and fascia, and improve range of motion. When coupled with properly prescribed exercise, this method has been shown to be effective in treating many orthopedic conditions.

Thank you to all who have served our country and the love patience support and sacrifice of the families of our veterans. You’ve sacrificed so that we can live freely and help others in our own way. Without you, we can’t do what we love. Forever and always grateful, from your PSPT family.

DID YOU KNOW?
Some headaches are caused by neck pain or dysfunction in the cervical spine. These “cervicogenic headaches” have been studied across medicine and the most effective treatments include PHYSICAL THERAPY interventions. This includes soft tissue work/stretching the muscles of the upper neck, mobilization/manipulation of the cervical spine, and strengthening of the deep neck stabilizers. With a few sessions, a lot of times this pain can go away completely. It may creep back up from time to time but there a bunch of great techniques that we use that target these areas super effectively.
So, if you have chronic headaches and this is coupled with stress or tightness in the neck, you may be a great candidate for PT care prior to resorting to medical management.
