Proud to support Northeastern Section of the Geological Society of America (NEGSA) here in Hartford.

Sixteen years ago, NEGSA in Pittsburgh (2011) was my first professional meeting as an undergraduate geoscience student, where I presented my first poster. Today, Macroscopic Solutions is honored to return not just as an attendee, but as a sponsor and exhibitor.

While most people see Hawaii as beaches and sunsets, I spent the last three days deep inside biosecurity labs on Oʻahu—reviewing pinned insects, wet specimens, seeds, plant pathogens, and intercepted agricultural material for high-precision 3D modeling and focus stacking with the Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture & Biosecurity.

This isn’t about pretty pictures.
This is about defending ecosystems, agriculture, and food security from invasive species that can devastate entire islands.

Participants will experience a hands-on demonstration of the Macropod automated imaging platform, built for rapid, high-resolution digitization of geological materials. In this tutorial, we demonstrate how to batch process over 30 Arabidopsis root systems into detailed 3D models using Agisoft Metashape and imagery captured with the Macropod PRO 3D system by Macroscopic Solutions. These samples were grown in microgravity aboard the Polaris Dawn mission and preserved inside plastic cubic cuvettes for imaging and analysis back on Earth. 🌱🛰️

The batch processing pipeline shown in this video is designed to streamline large-scale model generation using ’s built-in batch tools, allowing for high-throughput reconstruction of biological specimens from complex missions.

🚀 Mission Context:
Polaris Dawn is the first mission in the Polaris Program, led by Jared Isaacman in collaboration with SpaceX. Scheduled for mid-2025, Polaris Dawn aims to conduct the first commercial spacewalk, reach record orbital altitudes, and carry out extensive scientific research in low Earth orbit.
