Last week, MSU Health Care Sports Medicine came together with coaches, athletic trainers, and student volunteers from around the state at Holt High School for a hands-on Emergency Action Planning session. From CPR and AED response to treating heat illness and managing spinal injuries, participants practiced life-saving skills to prepare for on-field emergencies.
Michael Straus, PA, ATC, emphasized the importance of acting quickly in emergencies, saying, “The sooner we can act in the proper way and get patients or people treated properly and to the right facilities for proper care, the better chance we can save people’s lives.”
With a growing shortage of athletic trainers, especially in rural areas, this training is more critical than ever. We’re proud to be part of a program that’s expanding to reach even more schools across Michigan. Let’s keep our athletes safe and ready for the season ahead!
