A Founderās Reflection on the VISTA Exhilarating Living Movement

Sometimes in life you realize you werenāt simply building a company.
You were building a familyā¦
and launching a moonshot mission.
For me, that realization began with my mother.
Years ago, when helping her explore senior living options, I noticed something important. Many places understood care. But too few understood the experience of living.
Coming from a background in hospitality, I could see what was missing.
My mother did not simply need assistance. She needed warmth. She needed elegance. She needed joy. She needed to feel that life was still unfolding around her beautifully.
So I began to imagine something different.
What if assisted living could merge with hospitality?
Concierge-level service.
Spa-like comforts.
Beautiful surroundings.
Wonderful food.
Human connection.
A place where people felt valued, respected, and fully alive.
And when my mother became part of that kind of environment, I watched something extraordinary happen.
She thrived.
At 90 she was smiling.
At 95 she was still enjoying gatherings and celebrations.
At 98 she was surrounded by music, laughter, and people who truly cared.
Then one day, peacefully and sweetly, she said goodbye.
But what never left me were the memories from those final years she spent living within the Vista community.
The magic shows.
The celebrations that sometimes felt like family reunions.
The laughter.
The togetherness.
The community gatherings, the entertainment, the little moments that turned ordinary days into something joyful.
And the simple beauty of everyday life, in a family of friends.
In those early days, when we were creating some of our first Vista Springs communities ā places like Whispering Woods and Holland Meadows ā we were very intentional about the environments we chose.
Peaceful surroundings.
Quiet neighborhoods.
Places where nature itself could help set the tone.
Communities near lakes.
Walking paths around gentle waters.
Landscapes where people could sit, breathe, and reconnect with lifeās simple rhythms.
Those early Vista team members who helped bring those communities to life understood something important ā that environment shapes emotion, and thoughtful surroundings can lift the human spirit.
Over time, those places became known for the symbols of calm and tranquility that naturally gathered there.
Ducks, swans, and ponds.
All those days of ducks, swans, and ponds were simple reminders that peace, beauty, and human connection are still the true luxuries of life.
Those gentle images captured the spirit of the generation we first served ā a generation that valued peace, family, and togetherness.
And so Vista Springs became more than a company.
It became a movement.
A movement proving that aging could still be vibrant.
A movement showing that senior living could be joyful.
A movement dedicated to creating communities that are truly Full of Lifeā¢.
And together ā our teams, families, and members ā made that movement real.
But time moves forward.
The generation arriving today carries a different rhythm.
The baby boomers come with music in their memories, passports full of stamps, careers full of accomplishments, and dreams that are not finished yet.
They are curious.
They are engaged.
They are still seeking purpose and self-actualization.
They are not simply aging.
They are redefining what living well means.
And so our mission evolves.
Today we are building the next chapter.
