Supporting Spartans - it's what we do.

To celebrate our hockey, basketball, and gymnastics teams, University Health & Wellbeing staff are showing out in green and white to cheer on our Spartans.

Here’s to standing behind our teams and championing Spartan wellbeing on campus, in competition, and everywhere in between.

Go Green.

Established in 2013, MSU’s Collegiate Recovery Community was the first in Michigan to provide on-campus housing to students who are in or seeking recovery from substance use disorders.

The CRC also provides support through additional services, including weekly peer-support meetings and sober social events, that allow students to pursue their education without compromising their health.

"The opposite of addiction is community," says Dawn Kepler, CRC coordinator.

Could you recognize the signs if a student or colleague was silently struggling with their mental health?

MSU’s free, virtual mental health crisis recommended training is live in the Ability platform for students, faculty & staff. In just one hour, you’ll learn how to recognize warning signs, offer hope, and connect someone to support.

Think of it like CPR, but for mental health.

Let’s keep showing up for each other.

Update on Psychiatric Services at MSU

In Fall 2025, UHW announced that as part of the 9% university budget reduction ask, psychiatric services would transition from Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) to MSU Health Care, Inc. Soon after that announcement, we announced a pause on the transition to ensure we could fully assess how to best meet the evolving needs of our students.

Health and wellbeing are foundational to student success for graduation and beyond and supporting student mental health remains a top priority for MSU.

Psychiatric services will remain with University Health and Wellbeing, located at the Olin Health Center, and will realign with Campus Health Services, led by UHW Medical Director, Dr. Tim Spedoske. Dr. Swapna Hingwe will serve as Director, CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services) and Lead Psychiatrist, Campus Health Services, continuing to lead student-facing counseling and psychiatric services.

This student-focused and innovative plan continues to prioritize the high quality and coordinated mental health care students are accustomed to, while strengthening our clinical operations and leveraging our collective strengths.

What this means for students:
No disruption in care
Same providers
Same high quality support
Continued “no wrong door” access to services

Your health and wellbeing matters, and we’re here to ensure you receive the support you need, when you need it.
