Work It Wednesday 💼

Did you know that Jacob has been gaining hands-on experience with the maintenance department? He’s been hard at work assisting with tasks like fixing leaks, replacing dishwasher parts, troubleshooting electrical issues, correcting plugged sinks, and so much more. Talk about building real-world skills!

Last week, interns also focused on strengthening their online professional skills during a Zoom meeting with our job developer. They practiced muting/unmuting, taking turns to share ideas, and active listening—skills that are essential in today’s workplace.

We love seeing our interns grow both on the job and in professional settings!

Motivational Monday 💪

Sometimes there are aspects of a job that aren’t the most glamorous—but they still matter just as much. Taking pride in every task, big or small, is what builds strong work habits and reliability.

Annika is a great example of this mindset! During nap time, she steps up to help with laundry and cleaning the classroom, making sure everything is ready for the next part of the day.

It’s the behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything running smoothly—great job, Annika!

Sometimes when working, it’s important to take part in fun breaks and team-building activities—and last Friday our interns did just that!

In the morning, we explored the and checked out some really cool artifacts and exhibits. In the afternoon, we attended a Transition Program dance with other Ingham Intermediate School District Transition Programs.

Some students reconnected with old classmates and teachers, others took on the role of DJ, and everyone had a great time. It was a day full of connection, fun, and memorable experiences!

Congratulations to Tiffany on kicking off her first week of employment at Shaw Dining Hall! 🎉

This year, Tiffany completed internships at the MSU Library and Snyder-Phillips Dining Hall, building valuable skills and experience along the way. Over spring break, she had the opportunity to work at Shaw—and made such a strong impression that they hired her!

Today we’re giving a shout-out to Jameson for continuing to push himself and learn new job skills at his internship placement! This week he took on a new challenge in the dining hall—learning how to make cheese bread to help feed all the hungry students. 🍕

We are proud of Jameson for stepping outside his comfort zone, building his confidence, and gaining valuable hands-on experience. Keep up the great work, Jameson! 👏

Today our interns learned about what it means to rent an apartment and began exploring potential housing options for the future. From understanding leases and budgeting for rent to thinking about what they want in a living space, interns are starting to discover the many pieces of living independently.

It has been exciting to see them engage in conversations about their goals and the possibilities ahead as they continue building skills for independent living! 🏠✨
