How to Relax & Truly Enjoy the Holidays

✨ The holidays are cozy… and chaotic. As the days get colder and sunlight slips away, many of us crave blankets, soup, movies, and slow moments—yet find ourselves pulled in every direction by family gatherings, work, shopping, expectations, and the pressure to “keep up.”
🎄 If you’ve ever scrolled past perfectly decorated homes, flawless cookies, or picture-perfect festivities and felt overwhelmed, behind, or just not enough—you’re not alone. The holidays can bring joy, but they can also bring stress, grief, financial strain, and emotional exhaustion. This season, take a breath.

Here are a few grounding reminders inspired by our very own Victoria Brown to help you protect your peace:
💙 Be kind—to yourself and others. Everyone carries invisible burdens—seasonal depression, anxiety, loss, burnout. A little extra kindness goes a long way (and comes back to you, too).
💙 Simplify where you can. Make a list. Cross off what doesn’t truly matter. Ask for help when tasks feel heavy. You don’t have to do it all—and you don’t have to do it alone.
💙 Focus on what counts. Not the “perfect holiday,” but the moments: laughter in the kitchen, hot cocoa with friends, old movies, board games, music filling the house. These memories—not the decorations—stick with us.
💙 Give yourself space to breathe. Try a quick grounding exercise:Find a quiet spot, breathe deeply, and focus on your inhale and exhale for 1–2 minutes. Let wandering thoughts pass and gently return to your breath. Or settle in for a few minutes of meditation—slow breathing, closed eyes, and awareness on your body.

✨ The holidays can be magical—but only if you slow down enough to feel them. Protect your peace. Welcome what matters. Let the rest go.

"The holidays aren’t cheerful for everyone—and if this season brings up grief, heaviness, or overwhelm, you’re not alone. 💙 Grief can show up in many forms: the loss of a loved one, a breakup, a pet passing, financial strain, illness, or big life changes. And during the holidays—when expectations are high and emotions run deep—those feelings can intensify. Here are a few gentle reminders to help you navigate grief this season: ✨ You don’t owe anyone an explanation. It’s okay to set boundaries and choose what conversations you’re comfortable having. ✨ Your feelings are valid. Sadness, anger, loneliness—these emotions come in waves, and each one is temporary. ✨ Give yourself space to grieve. Whether you’re surrounded by people or spending the day alone, let yourself feel what you feel without judgment. ✨ Lean on support. Reach out to someone you trust, write a grief letter, or talk with a mental health professional who can help you create a “holiday action plan.” ✨ Be gentle with yourself. You deserve grace, rest, and compassion—especially right now. If you’d like more guidance on coping with grief during the holidays, you can read the full blog here:

She specializes in supporting the perinatal population and, as a new mom herself, enjoys connecting with and empowering other mothers—truly helping build a village of support. When she’s not working with clients, Colleen loves spending time with her family and bringing a positive, encouraging perspective to everyone she meets. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Food and Nutrition from Youngstown State University. Welcome!

After nearly 17 years of providing behavioral health services in Columbiana County, I continued to see how underserved this county is for emotional and behavioral health services. I opened Insight Clinical Counseling and Wellness, LLC in March 2020 (yes....just 9 days prior to the pandemic shutdown) to be able to develop a team of the most highly trained professionals in the area, who also offer top notch client care in a private and confidential setting.

My mission is to offer evidenced based practices for all ages, including families and couples, also while eliminating barriers to accessing treatment through certified telehealth, and do so with the fidelity necessary to produce the best outcomes for each client we serve.

Everyone has a story...a history about what makes them who they are today, and I make diligent efforts at exploring these experiences with every person I see. To find your strength, your direction, your purpose, psychotherapy may be the answer for you. There is no better time than today to begin working on creating your path to wellness. It is my hope that I can be a healing presence on your path to recovery, wellness & self-actualization.
