As West Virginia faces an unprecedented collapse of ambulance services, Senator Tom Takubo has introduced Senate Bill 639, which would create a $1 user fee on ci******es dedicated entirely to supporting emergency medical services throughout the state.

Unique challenges of delayed EMS during winter storms:

Heavy snowfall and icy conditions may block key routes, forcing ambulances to take longer, less direct paths and make travel dangerous for first responders, patients and their families.
Ambulances may experience mechanical issues or get stuck in the snow, reducing available resources for the community.
What can you do while waiting:
Mentally prepare for a longer response and transport time. Focus on on stabilizing the victim
Stay safe and move the victim to a safe area if in immediate danger
Use your CPR, AED and first aid training.
Maintain body temperature by removing wet cold clothing and covering with blankets. Warm bottles and place them in the armpits and applying electric heat pads or blankets on back and chest
Control severe bleeding
Assist with medical conditions such as diabetic emergencies.
Create a winter storms plan.
Stay with your vehicle if stranded in remote area
Protect higher risk individuals when EMS is delayed.
Prioritize the need for an ambulance. Call EMS if you are having life-threatening symptoms
Chest pains
Shortness of breath
Severe bleeding
Loss of consciousness.
Due to the safety of the crews and the patients, patients will be transported to the CLOSEST most appropriate ER.
Together we as a community will get through the storm

2025 was a rough year for sure. We are looking forward to a successful year in 2026. As we start our 20th year we want to thank our staff who has trekked this road with us. Who has helped build the professional service we have become. Without their true self dedication to our shared mission, we wouldn’t be us. From Admin, dispatchers, EMS crews and mechanics. We raise our glass to you and thank you. Here is to 2026, OUR year. Yours and ours. Let’s do this!

Honored to work with a great group!

Honored to work with a great group!

We are blessed with a great Lisbon Fire Department!

Last year, the department had a record number of 324 calls, up from 305 in 2024, according to Chief Mark Hall.

Calls in the village totaled 119, calls in Center Township were 108, and calls to Elk Run Township totaled 79.

A big hats off to our firefighters who work non-stop in often terrible weather conditions to keep us safe.
