At East Village Place, our monthly craft was a hit just before the Easter holiday! We made mini Easter baskets with seed pots, twine, ribbon, and decorative eggs. They all came out beautifully!

Scammers are increasingly posing as government agencies to target older adults.

According to the National Council on Aging, criminals often pretend to be from the Internal Revenue Service, Social Security Administration, or Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to pressure people into sharing personal information or sending money.

đźš© Red flags include threats of arrest, urgent payment requests, or messages asking for your Medicare or Social Security number.

When in doubt: hang up, delete the message, and never share personal information.

To celebrate the start of Spring, a group of us went to the Lil Plant Shop in Windsor, CT to make terrariums. We were invited by Jeff Eleveld, who presents a horticulture class to East Village Place monthly. We were impressed with the amount of items we were able to choose from to place in our terrariums. It was a lot of fun and we all brought home a beautiful work of art.

Did you catch this heartwarming story in U.S. News and World Report?

It highlights the friendship between Wanda and Peggy at our sister community, Sonrisa Senior Living. What started with a simple invitation to play bridge quickly turned into daily check-ins, shared activities, and a “best friend for life.”

Stories like this remind us so much of the friendships we see blooming right here at our senior living community. đź’›

At Watermark Retirement Communities, community life is designed to bring people together, whether it’s over a game of cards, a shared meal, or simply spending time with neighbors who become like family.

As Wanda shared in the article, she was ready to trade “a glass of wine with the TV” for connection and community—and she found exactly that.

National Girl Scout day was celebrated March 13th. Our local troop of Junior Girl Scouts came to celebrate with us. They presented us with an entertaining skit that detailed the history of Girl Scouts. We then played bingo with scout related topics on each square. The prizes included items like; Girl Scout cookies, games and puzzles. They made cupcakes for us to decorate and had candles that depicted the 114 years of scouting. We found out how many of us had been in or a part of scouts in our younger years. We concluded the program with the familiar Make New Friends song.

We recently held a pet drive at East Village Place for the Dakin Humane Society in Springfield, MA. We collected food, pet clothing, treats, toys, leashes, collars, harnesses, jackets and newspapers. We collected items for one month and then a group of us went in the van to deliver it. We had the added benefit of seeing a couple litters of kittens while we were there. They assured us that they were all being adopted.

This month we had the pleasure of having Irish step dancers from The John Boyle O'Reilly Club perform for us. They ranged in age from 4 years old to adults. The costumes were stunning and the dancers were incredible. They attend classes at the John Boyle club and it is obvious they have been working hard to learn the dances. There were approximately 17 dancers and we all had a great time.

Meet John and Pam Camardella, residents of East Village Place.

John and Pam have lived at east Village Place for approximately 4 months. They recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with flowers, cake and a card. John says their secret to staying together so long is because his wife, Pam, is just so nice and agreeable. They enjoy attending most of the musical entertainment programs, word games and Watermark University classes. John plays the accordian, guitar and sings. He is practicing so he can perform for us.

When asked to share some words of wisdom about moving to a retirement living, John and Pam said, “Everyone is so nice here and there is so much to do..”
