To commemorate Black History Month, we’re highlighting the story of Estelle Massey Osborne. She was the first Black woman to earn a master’s degree in nursing. After completing her education, she made it her life’s work to help other Black nurses access the higher levels of education that they deserved. In the 1940s, her work helped to grow the number of students that were accepted to nursing schools. During that time, she was a consultant for the National Nursing Council for War Services and played a crucial role in getting the U.S. Army and Navy to lift the color ban. She became the first Black faculty member at New York University in 1945. Happy BHM!
