We are excited to share with you one of our recent rehabilitation success stories! Meet Mr. Edward Newell who worked with our awesome therapy team (he is pictured with his therapist) at River Crossing of East Peoria towards increased independence and functional goals. We are proud to share his story and his success!

Edward Newell came to River Crossing of East Peoria in July after having a stroke. Mr. Newell received Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy services during his stay. Upon admission, Mr. Newell was on an altered diet with thickened liquids and required maximum assistance for activities of daily living and transfers. Today we are happy to report that he is transferring with stand by assistance, walking 200 feet with a front wheeled walker, and completing activities of daily living. Mr. Newell has also been upgraded to thin liquids. Edward has decided to remain at River Crossing of East Peoria long-term and we could not be happier for him and all of his progress that he has made.

At River Crossing of East Peoria, we had a great time celebrating Halloween not just once but three times! Friday was Disney, Monday the faithful 80's and Halloween was a free for all. We played games, trivia and enjoyed some treats too!

Most of us know someone who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease, whether it’s touched our own family or a friend’s loved ones. Nationally, November is known as Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.

Although everyone experiences a change in brain function as they age, what occurs with Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging. Alzheimer’s is a progressive neurodegenerative disease, which means it gets worse over time, and the person affected eventually loses the ability to accomplish daily tasks.

Whether it’s during November or any other time of the year, understanding Alzheimer’s disease can improve the quality of life for those with previously undiagnosed Alzheimer’s.

To familiarize yourself with the 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's visit www.alz.org. If you notice these in yourself or someone you know, don't ignore them. Schedule an appointment with your doctor.

We are excited to share with you one of our recent rehabilitation success stories! Meet Mr. Leroy Vinson who worked with our awesome therapy team (he is pictured with Eulogio, PT and Kaylee, COTA) at River Crossing of East Peoria towards increased independence and functional goals. We are proud to share his story and his success!

Leroy Vinson came to River Crossing East Peoria at the end of August with a cervical fracture. He required assistance with activities of daily living, bed mobility, and transfers. Leroy was only able to take 4 steps with a front wheeled walker upon admission. After receiving both Physical and Occupational therapy, we are proud to report that Leroy is going home. Today Leroy is walking 100 feet with a walker, complete steps, and perform activity of daily living with stand by assistance. Mr. Vinson stated that therapy has helped him reach his goals to go home.

Please join us in congratulating Leroy on his rehabilitation success!

Osteoporosis causes weak and fragile bones which means they can easily break - even a sneeze might be enough for a fracture. A healthy diet, Vitamin D, healthy lifestyle and weight bearing and strength training exercises can help prevent osteoporosis. reminds us to show our bones some love, especially as we age.

Today is World Hospice and Palliative Care Day. It is a day to show support for all the caretakers who devote their time and energy to those with life-limiting illnesses. Jobs like these are often a calling and having the support of people who care helps them do their job better. We appreciate the care that these workers provide to our communities and the comfort that they bring to patients and their families.
