Have you every tried getting work done with a fussy kiddo?

If you answered yes-how well did that go?

It’s just not a good idea to push them when they are fussing. We all like to feel relaxed and not anxious when we are working towards achieving our goals.

I’ve explored using a combination of techniques including compression, visual occlusion, modifying auditory input and adding vestibular stimulation to calm my fussy kiddos who have sensory processing differences along with separation anxiety.

She calmed down to allow for stretching & strengthening to address Torticollis as well as to do some floor exercises to combat toe walking.

Hopping on 1 leg starts around 3 years of age. It improves as strength, endurance and coordination emerges. By the age of 5 hopping forward is achieved in typical developing kids.

This little guy struggles to maintain single leg stance as well as go up and down stairs with 1 foot on each step without use of hands. We are working on global strengthening, balance and coordination in order to progress towards meeting his milestones and enhancing safety as well as peer play.

Proprioceptive input helps to improve body awareness. Why do we need it? I’m glad you asked. It allows us to be aware of where our body (parts of our body) is in space. Without it-we would not be able to determine if our head is up or down. We would not be able to determine the correct amount of force needed to open a door or pull a toy

It’s also important for balance and coordination. Input through the joints helps to activate the proprioceptors that are located inside our joints. Activating the joint receptors can be arousing for some and relaxing for others.

Kids who tend to be sluggish and less aroused are usually more active when they are provided proprioceptive input. After stimulation to her joints and guided steps she began to assist with stepping.

Retraining the brain one step at a time.

The BIGGEST one YET!!!!

I am 6 years old and working on overcoming developmental delays related to low tone, seizures and a Neuro developmental syndrome called Arhgef 9. My seizures have subsided and I’m grasping new skills as well as overcoming being fearful of new and uncomfortable experiences.

This activity allows him to work on self-correction, learning his body in space and how to control it. He use to scream when we tried this, but this time around he made some automatic corrections-although delayed-to correct his position.

We are extremely proud of him and his improvements.

Typically developing kids are, jumping in place, walking up steps, jumping forward with 2 feet take off/landing, and raising up on tiptoes. They are usually fairly stable when walking and running.

This handsome guy has global delays associated with Down’s Syndrome. We are working towards all the previous mentioned milestones as he has weakness, impaired coordination, muscle imbalances and balance deficits.

He is getting closer to jumping while holding his hands.

CP couples with seizures and spasms have not been kind to our Princess. She is down to 6 seizures a day-reduce from the 20s. This can be helpful in our JOURNEY to improving her spine position and quality of life.

We are just starting spinal stimulation today taught by . Her shoulders relaxed allowing for a significant change in the difficulty I had getting her shirt and dress off before treatment. Her spine also looked better, but her inclination to deviate towards her right side was still evident.

Stay tuned to follow her progress.
