over the course of my life i have been told i am too direct.. too stubborn.. too vulnerable.

ATTENTION WOMEN: did you know you've been given nutrition and medical advice based on 25-year-old men??!!!

Women were excluded from medical research until 1993 because our hormones were "too complicated" and "confounded the data."

So for decades, all research was done on men. Then applied to us. As if we're just smaller men with t**s.

Spoiler: We're not.

Women come to me constantly with PCOS, estrogen dominance, fertility issues, low progesterone, thyroid dysfunction, and chronic skin issues — after working with male practitioners for MONTHS or YEARS with zero progress (or things got worse).

Your male practitioner might have the textbook knowledge, but he doesn't have the lived experience of a female body.

He's never had his progesterone tank and couldn't sleep for a week.

He's never had his skin explode right before his period.

He's never felt his thyroid crash and suddenly couldn't get out of bed.

You need someone with the education AND the embodied understanding of what it's actually like to live in a female body.

Find a practitioner who gets it because she's been there.

Not the male default.

I jumped onto this machine sitting on the support bench like a seat instead of the way it’s “supposed” done by kneeling on it

And actually it turned out to be a great workout 😂

We’ve been conditioned to think that taking care of ourselves has to look a certain way - perfect form, perfect discipline, perfect ex*****on.

But here’s what I’ve learned working with women who are burned out, hormonal wrecked and completely disconnected from their bodies…

Trying to heal with a rigid, performative mindset will forever be an uphill battle

Your nervous system doesn’t know the difference between “trying to be perfect with your health” and “trying to perfect at work” and “trying to be perfect in your relationships.” It just knows you’re in chronic stress mode

& then your gut, energy and hormones suffer

& then so does your existence

Learning to take care of yourself means learning to be IN your body again and OUT of your head - messy, imperfect, playful and fully alive

So last year, in November, my cycle abruptly went from 28 days to 32 days (and then stayed that way)

My cycle has been very regular always at 28 days so I freaked out (obviously)

So many things were going on in my life. My boyfriend and I just moved into a new house together.

I thought i was pregnant (I wasnt)

I thought my water was contaminated so I bought a water filter (didnt change anything)

I was obsessing over why my cycle was now 32 days! 4 more days in the luteal phase comeon nobody wants that

As the spring approached, my cycle went to 31 days, then 30, then 29 and then around june back to 28 and stayed that way.

Then this year.. my first cycle after daylight savings time.. my cycle went AGAIN from 28 to 32! Big jump!

This is when it hit me how significantly hormones are influenced by the natural world and light

So, I started everyday after that by getting outside right away and spending a minimum of 15 minutes looking in the direction of the sun

The next cycle? 29 days

Now I am also learning how much blue light affects our hormone production

So this cycle ..when the sun goes down ive been using my blue light blocking glasses at night, little to no overhead lights (defintely no LED lights) and we use a projector instead of a TV

We all have this inner child inside of us that would love nothing more than to spend the day playing, dancing and singing

I think its safe to say we all choreographed at least one dance/ song for our family at some point in our childhood

& im thinking about WHY we did that

It was pure, simple fun. An expression of creativity. Our alpha brain waves are being activated which bring a calm, fulfilled peace within us along for the ride

My spicy opinion? 🌶
The minute you stop playing is the minute you start dying.

You can have the "healthiest" diet in the world but if you suppress that inner child, that deep pleasure of PLAYING, you're going to remain stuck

Not all healing work has to be hard and painful. Remembering is play is healing too!

The more you play, the more FREE you are. In your body, in your soul, in your mind.

Functional nutrition is not only about the food youre putting into your body (although that is a large part). Its about engaging with your health from a HOLISTIC view.

That "grind harder" mentality? It's making you sick

We're out here running on fumes, skipping meals, crushing HIIT workouts daily, and wondering why we feel like garbage the week before our period.

Here's what nobody's telling you: Your ovulation high isn't meant to last all month. When you try to maintain that same intensity through your luteal phase, you're actively suppressing progesterone - the hormone that's supposed to calm your nervous system and prep your body for either pregnancy or a healthy period.

Instead we get:

Estrogen dominance (hello painful periods, PMS rage, and bloating)
Cortisol through the roof
Blood sugar chaos
That fun "wired but tired" feeling

The guilt you feel for not exercising yourself into the ground? That's diet culture gaslighting, not your intuition.
