If you have ever watched your child walk across a tile floor with wet feet and noticed their footprints look like ovals rather than curved shapes, you are looking at pediatric flat feet. While many children are born with what looks like flat feet due to a natural fat pad, the concern arises when the arch doesn't develop as they get older, or if they start complaining of leg cramps and foot fatigue.

If you are worried about your child’s flat feet and how they could impact them later in life, here is how we at Syracuse Podiatry can step in to address the flat foot issue: https://tinyurl.com/38zspwmr

When you hear the word "Spurs," you might think of cowboys and their boots. Or the basketball team from San Antonio. But guess what? For most of us, spurs are just outgrowths of bone. Typically near the heel. And they hurt!

Runners and workers who spend a lot of time standing must deal with this painful problem all the time. But it can be solved. Learn more: https://tinyurl.com/2jx94r4k

You’re not going to be the next Usain Bolt, but we at Syracuse Podiatry don’t blame you for being inspired by the rising popularity of sprinting as a form of exercise. When you think about sprinting, you probably picture powerful glutes, shredded quads, and explosive speed. It is one of the most effective ways to build cardiovascular fitness and raw power. But have you ever stopped to consider what is happening to your feet when you hit top speed?

While this exercise can build foot strength, it also carries specific risks that you need to manage. Here is our expert opinion on how sprinting affects your feet: https://tinyurl.com/ycxjes8r

Remember, racket sport fans: Clay courts let you slide. Concrete hardcourts make you stop instantly. And the difference can hurt.

When you lunge for a drop shot and plant your foot, the friction stops your shoe immediately, but momentum sends your foot slamming into the front of the toe box.
This repetitive "jamming" is the #1 cause of Tennis Toe (bleeding under the nail).

Use the "Heel Lock" lacing technique to secure your ankle to the back of the shoe, preventing your foot from sliding forward during a volley.

If you have been feeling a dull ache or a tugging sensation at the back of your ankle, you are likely dealing with Achilles tendonitis. And while we often blame a tough workout or a long run for the pain, the real culprit might be sitting right in your closet.

The short answer is yes; the wrong shoes can wreck your Achilles. If you are tired of hobbling around, allow us at Syracuse Podiatry to audit what you are putting on your feet: https://tinyurl.com/266y8nu4

It's Foot Health Awareness Month, but chronic illness is in the news and on our minds year-round. Fortunately, your feet keep an eye on the rest of your body, so taking care of them pays off all over.

Yup, you read that right. Your feet are often the first place that serious systemic diseases show up! Because they are the furthest point from your heart, poor circulation, peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage), and diabetes often display symptoms in the toes long before you feel them anywhere else.

If your feet are constantly freezing, tingling, or losing hair, don't ignore the signal. Check in with us instead: https://tinyurl.com/5ek74b9b
