Our thoughts and prayers are with this Academy Support member for a speedy recovery and with his team that quickly jumped into action.

This morning, a member of our Crib Support team was seriously injured after a fall at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy's Stow campus. We are deeply grateful to all the staff who took immediate action to provide medical aid and notified 9-1-1, and to Stow and Sudbury first responders. We ask that you please spare a thought and a prayer for him, his family, and his brother and sister firefighters.

We are extremely grateful to share that the Onset Fire District has been awarded $15,119.53 through the FY26 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

This funding will go directly toward needed equipment for the new pumper ensuring our firefighters and apparatus have the equipment they need to continue protecting our community at the highest level.

On behalf of the entire Onset Fire Department, I want to sincerely thank the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security and the Department of Fire Services for their continued support of the fire service across the Commonwealth. Investments like this make a real difference, especially for departments like ours with a limited tax base.

We are proud to serve the residents of Onset and remain committed to providing professional, reliable emergency services every day.

Respectfully,
Chief Jeffrey Osswald
Onset Fire Department

Yesterday we officially took delivery of our new pumper!

This replacement project began in 2023 with funding approval at the fire district's annual meeting. Department personnel worked alongside Joseph Bevilacqua - Specialty Vehicles, Inc. to design and order a truck built by Rosenbauer Group that best met the needs of our department. We can not thank everyone involved in this project enough for their time and effort! But most of all we appreciate the continual support of our citizens who authorized the purchase of this important piece of apparatus.

Over the next several weeks the truck will be outfitted with equipment and our personnel will train on driving and pump operations.

🚨 MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF OF DEPARTMENT🚨

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to every member of our department who answered the call during the Blizzard of 2026.

The extreme conditions we operated in heavy snowfall, powerful winds, and prolonged power outages tested our endurance and commitment. Despite these challenges, our members worked tirelessly to protect our community, assist with power restoration efforts, and ensure access to areas that were otherwise unreachable due to significant snow accumulation. Your professionalism, resilience, and dedication to public safety did not go unnoticed.

This storm response was truly a team effort. We are deeply appreciative of the strong partnerships and coordination with:
• Onset Water Department
• Onset Prudential Committee
• Onset District Administration
• Wareham EMS
• Wareham Fire Department
• Wareham Municipal Maintenance
• Wareham Emergency Management
• Town of Wareham Administration
• Wareham Police Department

Your collaboration, communication, and shared commitment to serving our residents were instrumental in navigating this historic storm safely and effectively.

To our firefighters, call members, interns, officers, and mutual aid partners thank you for your unwavering dedication to the community we proudly serve.
