As we look back on 45 years, we return to 1997, a pivotal moment when our vision for compassionate care quite literally broke ground đź’™

As we look back at these memories, we remember our humble beginnings in an office in the health department and the vision, dedication, and countless hands that has made Talbot Hospice what it is today.

Today, on National Doctors Day, we take a moment to recognize the steady, compassionate presence of physicians in our community and beyond.

To our hospice doctors, thank you for the care you provide not just through your expertise, but through your listening, your patience, and your ability to meet patients and families exactly where they are. You bring comfort, dignity, and clarity during some of life’s most difficult moments.

To the doctors throughout our community, and to all physicians everywhere, thank you for the countless decisions, long hours, and quiet acts of care that often go unseen but never go unfelt.

We are deeply grateful đź’™

Love does not end when a life does. It lives on in the memories shared, the kindness passed forward, and the hearts forever changed. At Talbot Hospice, we are honored to help families hold onto those moments that last a lifetime.

We would like to thank Rock the Choptank Fishing Tournament for their incredible efforts in their Winter Bash Tournament! We’re also so grateful to our own Dawn Ruby and Colby Hall for participating and proudly representing Talbot Hospice during this exciting event. Your dedication and support help make our mission possible!

We were honored last month to present Talbot Hospice with a check for $2,184 from our Winter Bash Tournament. Although it came together as a last-minute decision, the event was a great success.

Hosting it at Doc’s Sunset Grille in Oxford proved to be a fantastic venue that everyone truly enjoyed. We’re excited to build on that success again this year—dates will be announced soon.

A special thank you to Dawn Ruby, Steve Anderson, and an anonymous angler for their generous contributions. Dawn, who works at Talbot Hospice, donated her winnings back to the organization. Steve Anderson also made a meaningful donation in honor of his mother, who was cared for by Talbot Hospice.

Talbot Hospice is about to celebrate 45 years of compassionate care!

As we enter our 45th anniversary year, we reflect on the countless lives touched, the families comforted, and the volunteers, staff, and supporters whose dedication has carried our mission forward. From the earliest days to today, each story, each moment, and each act of kindness has woven the tapestry of our legacy. For 45 years, Talbot Hospice has been a place where compassion meets community, a place where families find comfort, patients are surrounded with dignity and care, and no one has to walk life’s most difficult moments alone.

While our official anniversary begins in May, we are excited to spend the coming weeks celebrating the milestones, memories, and moments that have shaped who we are today. We’ll be sharing stories, photos, and reflections from the past 45 years, honoring the people who have made this work possible, and looking ahead to the future of our mission.

As we mark 45 years, we are filled with gratitude for every life touched, every memory shared, and every act of kindness that has made this journey possible. The heart of Talbot Hospice has always been the community that surrounds it, and that love continues to carry our mission forward.

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Mary Lou Malone 🌟

Meet one of our volunteers who helps make a difference for our patients and families every day!

When did you start volunteering with Talbot Hospice?
I started volunteering at Talbot Hospice in 2015!

What inspired you to become a hospice volunteer?
After my sister passed at a hospice in Denver, I was deeply moved by the compassionate care she received. Retirement gave me the time to give back, and volunteering allows me to support patients and families at the end of life.

What is your volunteer role, and what do you enjoy most?
I serve as a greeter, welcoming families and offering a listening ear. I am also an end-of-life doula. As an end-of-life doula, I help people talk about loss and grief in a safe, nonjudgmental space. This work has deepened my empathy, reminded me of life’s fragility, and helped me cherish each day.

What is one fun fact about you?
I was a California hippie in the 70s! ✌️

March is Social Work Month, a time to recognize the dedication, skill, and heart that social workers bring to our communities every day. This year’s theme, “Uplift. Defend. Transform.”, perfectly captures the essence of social work. Social workers uplift individuals and families by providing support, guidance, and advocacy during life’s most challenging moments. They defend the rights and dignity of those they serve, ensuring that every voice is heard and every need is acknowledged. Through their work, they transform lives, helping people navigate change, find resilience, and experience hope.

Our social work team embodies this theme in everything they do at Talbot Hospice. From offering compassionate support to patients and families, to coordinating resources, and providing education and guidance, they uplift those who need it most. They defend the choices, wishes, and well-being of every individual, ensuring care is always centered on respect and empowerment. And through their dedication and expertise, they transform the experience of care, making challenging moments more manageable and meaningful.

We are proud to celebrate our social workers this month and every month for the incredible difference they make.
