Yesterday was an exciting and meaningful day for Talbot Hospice!

Our Executive Director, Molly Kirsch, joined lawmakers at the Maryland House to provide testimony in support of hospice reform legislation alongside Delegate Thomas S. Hutchison. Molly spoke before the Health Committee to express strong support for establishing Medicaid reimbursement for room and board in licensed residential hospice facilities, an important step toward expanding access to compassionate end-of-life care for patients and families across Maryland.

We are also incredibly proud of our Chaplain, Jody Gunn, who opened the Maryland Senate floor session with a heartfelt and moving prayer, setting a thoughtful tone for the day’s work and reminding all in attendance of the importance of service, compassion, and community.

We invite you to watch both special moments:

We are grateful to help represent our hospice community and advocate for care that supports dignity, comfort, and compassion for all Marylanders 💙

Women Supporting Women & Men Supporting Men: 8-week Spousal Loss Support Groups start Tuesday February 24th.

Talbot Hospice invites those who have experienced the loss of a spouse or significant other to join Women Supporting Women AND Men Supporting Men, compassionate and supportive 8-week groups.

These groups will assist in understanding the journey grief. Grief is messy and unpredictable. Grief does not follow a straight line to healing; there are no time frames or rules. What is important is that your grief is acknowledged and validated. Talbot Hospice looks forward to offering a safe place for you to share your grief. Together, we’ll share stories, explore the grieving process, and find healing in the strength of community.

Women Supporting Women: Every Tuesday 10:00 am, starting 2/24/26 and ending 4/14/26.

Men Supporting Men: Every Tuesday 2:00 pm, starting 2/24/26 and ending 4/14/26.

"Talbot Hospice did a great job putting together a group of women that have become my family. They understand my feelings without judgement. When you are left alone and lost, being able to reach out to group like this is a gift." - Nancy

When did you join the Talbot Hospice team?
I joined Team Talbot Hospice on 1/5/26!

What drew me to hospice care?
What really drew me into hospice was a combination of family influence and who I am as a person. I’ve seen firsthand, through my family, how powerful compassion and presence can be during some of life’s hardest moments. Those experiences stayed with me. I’m naturally empathetic and a people oriented person, hospice allows me to truly connect with individuals and families, listen to them, and support them in a meaningful way. Being able to bring comfort, dignity, and companionship at such an important time feels like the most purposeful way I can serve others.

One thing I’d really like the community to understand about hospice is that hospice is about honoring people, not just caring for an illness. It’s about being present, listening, and supporting individuals and families through one of the most meaningful seasons of life. Hospice helps people feel seen, valued, and surrounded by compassion, and that can all make a big difference.

What is one fun fact about you?
One fun fact about me is that I’m extremely hilarious and very creative!

Today, we are filled with heartfelt gratitude for our incredible friends at Friends of Hospice. Their unwavering dedication, compassion, and tireless work continue to make an extraordinary difference for Talbot Hospice and the families we serve.

This year was especially meaningful as Festival of Trees Talbot County celebrated its 40th anniversary, a milestone that reflects decades of generosity, community spirit, and love. Because of their efforts, Friends of Hospice presented us with the largest donation in the event’s history! This gift represents so much more than a number. It reflects countless hours of planning, volunteering, and giving, all to ensure that compassionate hospice care remains available to those who need it most.

Year after year, their team shows up with open hearts and an unwavering commitment to our mission. Their support brings comfort, dignity, and peace to our patients and their loved ones during life’s most tender moments.

We are beyond grateful for Friends of Hospice, for their partnership, and for the legacy of compassion they continue to build each year through Festival of Trees. Thank you for standing beside us, and for making this 40th year so incredibly special.

During Black History Month, we honor pioneers who helped shape compassionate healthcare in America. One of those trailblazers was Mary Eliza Mahoney, the first Black licensed nurse in the United States.

In 1879, Mary Eliza Mahoney broke barriers in a profession that offered few opportunities to women of color. She was known not only for her skill and determination, but for her deep commitment to patient dignity and compassionate care. Throughout her career, she advocated for equality in nursing and worked to ensure that all patients received respectful, quality treatment.

At Talbot Hospice, we carry that same belief forward each day. We are committed to ensuring that every patient and family we serve is met with dignity, respect, and personalized care, regardless of background. We are proud to stand on the shoulders of pioneers like Mary Eliza Mahoney as we continue our mission of compassionate care for our entire community.

Love filled the Hospice House this Valentine’s Day ❤️

On Saturday evening, families gathered to share a special Valentine’s dinner with their loved ones. With the help of our incredible staff and volunteers, guests enjoyed delicious chicken and shrimp dinners, along with chocolate-covered strawberries for a sweet finishing touch. More than anything, the evening was about connection, comfort, and being together.

We were also grateful to welcome Claire, who for the past several years has brought Valentine’s gifts to our patients through donations she collects in our community. Her kindness and continued commitment to spreading love brings so much joy to our patients and their families, and we are deeply thankful for the light she brings to the Hospice House.

Moments like these remind us that hospice care is not just about caring for patients, but caring for families, creating space for love, and honoring the time we share together.
