SU***DE PREVENTION ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES: LESSONS FROM A MENTAL HEALTH SCREENING PROGRAM

This training examines the Interactive Screening Program (ISP), a digital mental health screening platform developed by the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention and utilized by more than 60,000 college students nationwide. Led by Dr. James Aluri, psychiatrist at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the session will explore how students use anonymous, clinician-mediated digital screening to report mental health concerns, receive personalized feedback, and engage in ongoing dialogue designed to lower barriers to care.

Learning Objectives
• Describe the structure, user experience, and clinical workflow of the Interactive Screening Program as a digital mental health screening platform.
• Identify characteristics of higher education students who are likely to engage with digital mental health screening tools and connect to professional care.
• Analyze engagement patterns, referral outcomes, and equity considerations associated with digital screening platforms.
• Evaluate the strengths and limitations of digital screening tools within a broader campus mental health and su***de prevention framework.

Keep the Door Open Rally!Standing up for fully funded, quality mental health and substance use care.
When we protect behavioral health, we protect our communities.

!

02/27/2026

Yesterday, hundreds of Maryland residents gathered at Lawyers Mall in Annapolis for the Keep the Door Open Rally, standing alongside providers and mental health advocates to call on state lawmakers to ensure strong funding and continued support for critical mental health and substance use treatment services.

The rally highlighted the urgent need for reliable access to behavioral health care across Maryland. Cutting or underfunding these essential services leaves vulnerable individuals and families without the support they need.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, especially those who traveled from the Eastern Shore to bring your voices, your signs, and your support. Together, we stood up for access to quality mental health and substance use care and urged the Maryland General Assembly to provide the funding necessary for our communities to truly thrive.

A special thank you to our Board Member, Senator Jonny Mautz, and Jeff Shultz of ASFP and member of the Mid Shore Su***de Coalition, for their powerful words of support and leadership at this important event.
