December is a time to reflect, give thanks, and give back.

At SMG Neurosurgery, we believe in supporting our community and making a positive impact beyond our work. Each year we support the Salvation Army’s Christmas Angel program, giving to children in need. Our team was able to adopt five angels this year.

We also gave thanks for our amazing team by coming together for our annual Christmas Party.

This holiday season, we want to thank our patients for trusting us with your care. Wishing you and your loved ones a season filled with health, happiness, and peace. Happy Holidays!

We would like to welcome Susan (Sue) Hentgen to the SMG Neurosurgery team as our second Surgical Coordinator!

Sue was born and raised in Prince George’s county. She graduated from Bowie High School and started working at the age of 15 years old in the dental field. Sue expanded her dental experience up to Surgical Scheduler for a team of oral surgeons when she was 24. Now she has joined the Neurosurgery Team with Dr. Kurtom, as one of his surgical schedulers. Sue has 2 daughters, 2 grandchildren, and a wonderful husband. In her free time, she loves spending time helping people. She is excited to be part of Dr. Kurtom’s team and is so happy that she has found her last job until retirement.

This is a peer-driven survey where physicians can recognize one another for their exceptional patient care, bedside manner, professionalism, and expertise. Topping the list again this year for Neurosurgery is our own Dr. Khalid Kurtom. Earlier this month, Jodie Thomas, our RN Supervisor for SMG Neurosurgery was promoted to Practice Manager. Jodie has been with our practice for just over two years and has excelled in every task given to her. Please join us in congratulating Jodie and welcoming her into her new role.

December has been a busy month for the UM SMG Neurosurgery team!

❄️The Neurosurgery office staff enjoyed a visit from a Snowman

❄️We participated in the Salvation Army’s Adopt-an-Angel program. In total, the team donated enough money to adopt six children this year!
