This week Governor Healey announced a series of immediate measures to ensure that vaccines remain available to MA residents of all ages. Herd immunity via widespread access to vaccines is critical to keep our communities safe, particularly for older adults, people with disabilities, and the direct care workers who care for them every day. MSCA and its members are proud to operate in a state that believes health care is, "a right and public health a responsibility." Thank you Governor Maura Healey for your leadership keeping our communities safe and healthy.
Massachusetts is America's health leader because we believe in science-backed, evidence-based care. I will not let Donald Trump and RFK Jr. get in between you, your doctor, and lifesaving vaccines you need.
Today, I'm announcing immediate measures to protect vaccine availability in Massachusetts.
First: We're guaranteeing that vaccines recommended by the Department of Public Health are covered by insurance. That includes the flu and COVID vaccine, and children's vaccines like measles and chickenpox. No one will be denied a vaccine due to cost.
Second: CVS, Walgreens, and other pharmacies will continue to provide vaccinations, including for COVID and the flu. Pharmacists will be scheduling appointments and administering vaccines approved by the Commissioner tomorrow.
Third: Massachusetts is working with other states in New England and across the Northeast to form a public health collaboration. We’ll develop recommendations for safe, science-backed vaccines and step-in when the federal government falls short.
More people in Massachusetts can get life-saving treatments, medications and vaccines than in any other state. Here, we know that health care is a right and public health is a responsibility – and we’ll do whatever it takes to make sure you get the care you need.
