Need some holiday gift ideas for your kids that will also help with their therapy goals? Keep following us this holiday season, as we launch our Amazon Affiliation program with therapy tools that your kids will love!

Let's get started with one of our favorites- the body sock! https://amzn.to/4oGt9zC (Amazon affiliate link)

Why Our OT's Love Body Socks

A body sock is a powerful sensory and motor resource we often use in our OT sessions. Here are some of the key benefits:

1. Provides deep pressure input
Offers calming proprioceptive feedback to help regulate the nervous system.

2. Improves body awareness
Helps children understand where their bodies are in space, which is especially helpful for those who seek movement or have trouble judging personal space.

3. Builds motor planning and coordination
Encourages children to move, stretch, and explore different positions while figuring out how to move within the resistance of the fabric.

4. Supports self-regulation
The gentle resistance and โ€œfull-body hugโ€ can help children calm their bodies before or after stimulating activities.

5. Encourages imaginative play
Invites creativity as children pretend to be different shapes, animals, or characters while getting important sensory input.

6. Promotes postural control and core strength
Moving and maintaining balance inside the body sock engages trunk and postural muscles in a playful way.

OT tip: Use the body sock for a few minutes before seated work, transitions, or fine motor tasks to help children feel grounded, organized, and ready to learn!

Can you believe this could be causing attention and focus problemsโ€ฆ

You may not realize it, but bad or stooped posture could be causing a child to fidget, squirm or even have ADHD-like symptoms in the classroom.

How could it possibly be related?

When a child has poor core strength, they canโ€™t hold up the torso of their body, which creates slumping and bad posture. And, if the child has one or more retained

Primitive Reflexes impacting posture and core stability, you will see the child struggling even more.

Core strength and core stability is what helps kids sit upright automatically without having to think about it. This frees the brain for learning, rather than having to focus so hard on getting their body in a position where they can focus.

Kids with poor posture and core stability may lack the following:
๐Ÿ˜ฃAttention and focus
๐Ÿ˜ฃMotivation to complete tasks
๐Ÿ˜ฃCoordination and fine motor skills for handwriting
๐Ÿ˜ฃBalance to hold themselves upright in their desk

To learn more about how core stability is impacting each one of these areas and the retained Primitive Reflexes causing trouble with posture, check out the link below or grab it in our profile.
