🤩 Important Update For Eastpointe Residents! 🤩
We are excited to announce that Eastpointe is now the FIRST city in the state of Michigan to implement mandatory microchipping requirements for all resident cats and dogs 🐕🐈⬛😍!
This new ordinance will help ensure that lost pets are quickly reunited with their families and promote responsible pet ownership across our community🐾. Among mandatory microchipping, we also have several new ordinances you need to know.
📢What you need to know (summarized):
▪️All resident cats & dogs 4 months old and older are now required to have a registered (with current contact information) microchip.
▪️Owning an intact (not fixed) male cat & intact (not fixed) female cat is now prohibited. One of the sexes is required to be altered. Breeding (or accidental) is prohibited.
▪️Whether confined or not, animals are not permitted to ride in the bed of trucks or any other external part of any moving vehicle.
▪️A person may not keep an animal in a motor vehicle or other enclosed space in which the animal's health or life is endangered by high temperature, low temperature, or inadequate ventilation. A police officer or animal control officer may, after attempting to locate the animal’s owner, remove the animal from a vehicle or enclosed space using any reasonable means, including breaking a window or lock. If professional services are required to remove the animal, the owner shall be responsible for the cost.
▪️Domestic Ducks (wildlife not included) are now prohibited (unless currently grandfathered in with animal control's approval. Once those pets are relocated or deceased, they may not be replaced.)
▪️Kennel permits are now prohibited (unless currently grandfathered in with the Chief of Police's approval. Once those pets are relocated or deceased, they may not be replaced until down to three dogs.)
▪️Rabbits (wildlife not included) or other exotic animal is not permitted to live outside, in sheds, or in garage.
▪️Rabbits (wildlife not included) or other exotic animal is not permitted to be outdoors from 11pm to 7am.
▪️Rabbits (wildlife not included) or other exotic animal is not permitted outdoors below 43 degrees or above 82 degrees.
Thank you for helping make Eastpointe a safer, more pet-friendly family city!
