February is National Children’s Dental Health Month! 👶🏼🦷

The American Dental Association recommends that every child should have their first dental visit by the time they turn 1 year old, or when their first tooth appears.

Your child’s first visit will help them feel more comfortable with the dental office. This early appointment also gives parents the opportunity to ask questions and learn proper oral hygiene habits. Establishing dental care early helps set the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles! 😁

Did you know? 🤔

This January marks 130 years since the first dental x-ray was taken with exposure times up to 25 minutes! 😲 Thankfully, x-rays have had a huge shift from film-based to digital. Digital x-rays are much safer, faster, and provide clearer images compared to the traditional film.

Why do we take x-rays? X-rays help us see what’s happening beneath the surface of the tooth.

🦷 Bitewing x-rays detect cavities between the teeth and below the gumline.
🦷 Periapical x-rays show the entire tooth, helping identify gum disease, bone loss, and cavities near the tooth roots.
🦷 Panoramic x-rays capture the entire mouth, which includes teeth, jaws, nerves, sinuses and surrounding bone.

Dental x-rays play a key role in early detection and keeping your smile healthy and bright! 😁
