If you’re always “on edge,” there’s a reason.
After trauma, we can become hyper aware of our environment and the people in it because this is what it takes to feel safe.
Our brains and our bodies are trying to protect us from experiencing more trauma.
Hypervigilance isn’t anxiety without cause. It’s your body saying, “We’ve seen this before.”
It’s instinct, not imagination, and definitely not overthinking.
The first step in PTSD recovery is understanding our symptoms and giving ourselves grace.
Be patient with yourself.

I just came across this graphic and did my own research to make sure of its accuracy. What an awful stat sheet, that number 1 cause of death is a real thing. I've been dealing with those intrusive thoughts alot over the last 18-20 years, it has caused alot of pain and heartache to my family and I. Many people from my community have talked plenty about me, and my troubles with drinking, and legal troubles. My children and my wife have also had to deal with the problems I've cause them. PTSD and TBI are invisible wounds I deal with daily, on top of that I have dealt with physical wounds, and have done surgery after surgery. That is a huge reason I am doing this, helping others, helps me! If there is any Veteran's in need of help please let someone know! Contact One Battle! If we cant help we know who can. I've been in contact with other area nonprofits aswell and hope to be able to work with them also. And even if you dont think something will work, sometimes you still have to give it a shot! Reach out to a Veteran check in with them make sure they are doing well!

I would like everyone to give a call to a Veteran, check in on them! Let them know you care! Even if you haven't talked to them recently, even if they appear to be doing great via social media. I have lost a few friends this last few months. We all get busy and have children and get caught up. If your doing great, reach out to a Veteran. If your not doing great, reach out to a Veteran... Let's take care of eachother!

24 years ago today, I was sitting in class as a Junior in High School. We had gotten word that a plane hit the World Trade Center. Me being from Northwest Wisconsin, I couldnt understand the significance right away! They rolled in the TV, put on the news, just in time for us to watch the second plane hit the towers. I may not have known what the towers even were, but I knew that it was not a coincidence. And it was an act of terrorism and an act of war, that lead us to almost immediate war. We began to invade Afghanistan Oct 7 2001. I felt such a strong feeling of duty to my country, I signed my early enlistment papers on October 25, with a permission slip from my Father who also served. This is almost the same story for thousands and thousands of OEF and OIF Veterans. The war extended into Iraq, and both Campaigns spanned nearly 2 decades. My heart goes out to those that lost their life in the planes, towers, police, ems, firefighters, bystanders, at the sight, and especially those that volunteered to join the Armed Forces after that day, knowing you would be deployed to a war zone, away from your friends, family, and loved ones, thousands of miles away, giving your best youthful years, to defending your country, and your freedom; as well as freedom for other countries. Not knowing the life you'd have otherwise lived. The mental and physical toll you would eventually take, how life would be so different upon returning from combat. For your sacrifices America is a better place and I want to say thank you! You do matter! If you need any help reach out to someone! ANYONE! 1B is here if you need us!

Happy National Purple Heart Day, to my brothers and sister who have recieved this terrible honor. Throughout our nations Military existence there are only approximately 41 million people who have served in the armed forces, and out of those 41 million people only 1.8 million have ever recieved the Honor of the Purple Heart since its introduction in 1932. The Purple Heart is not given to those solely wounded in combat, but also those that lost their life in combat, for the country that they love. So if you are one of the lucky ones, that have recieved a Purple Heart, and are reading this know our thoughts and prayers are with you. I myself am a recipient, as well as the director of One Battle inc. And the chaplain of chetek vfw post 10331, if you are struggling in anyway, or need some support please reach out! I am hear with open ears and understanding!
