Occupational Health Nurses Week is a national observance each April that celebrates and recognizes members of the occupational and environmental health nursing profession. While some people understand the functions of a nurse in clinical settings, this week serves as a way to bring attention and awareness to the thousands of "OHNs" who work in promoting and protecting the health of workers in the US and around the globe.

Through case management, coaching and health counseling, health promotion and wellness activities, legal and regulatory compliance, and workplace hazard detection and mitigation, occupational and environmental health nurses improve the health of employees and contribute to a healthy bottom line for businesses.

Thank you all OHNs!

April Is Medicaid Awareness Month.

Medicaid is the largest single source of health coverage in the U.S. Combined state and federal Medicaid spending comprises nearly one-fifth of all personal health care spending in the U.S. Medicaid provides crucial access to care, improving health outcomes when compared to those who are uninsured.

Medicaid matters and is essential to safeguarding the financial stability and well-being of millions of Americans.

March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and push for better research, treatment, and support.

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neurological condition caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the brain before, during, or shortly after birth. CP is the most common physical disability in childhood. The condition is sometimes the result of medical mistakes during childbirth. In these cases, families may be eligible for financial support.

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month
____________

A traumatic brain injury, also called a TBI, occurs when brain function is altered by an external force. This happens when something strikes the head or when the head hits something as a result of a fall, motor vehicle accident, assault, and more.

Non-traumatic brain injury causes damage to the brain as a result of internal factors, such as a lack of oxygen, exposure to toxins, and pressure from a tumor.

The symptoms and impacts are wide-ranging and can change everything about someone in a matter of seconds. This event affects both the survivor and their support network, so it’s important to keep some things in mind when interacting with a survivor. The most important things to remember are that no two injuries are the same and the effects of the injury are complex and vary greatly from person to person.
