IN LOVING MEMORY

Verna “Gayle” Hammonds, 75, of Calvert City, KY, died February 12, 2026, at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Center in Paducah, KY. She was born July 12, 1950, in Golden Pond, KY, to the late James Carl Watkins and the late Wanda Duff Peek.

Gayle moved with her family to Grand Rivers, KY, as a teenager where she spent most of her life. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and cherished her time working with the youth.

Gayle loved her family, friends and anyone who came into her orbit. Anyone who was blessed enough to know her will tell you how very kind she was, possessing a spirit of love and care for everyone. To know her, was truly to love her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marty Hammonds; son, Stephen Hammonds; and daughter, Crystal Gayle Hammonds.

She is survived by her brothers, Danny Watkins and wife Laura, Dalton Watkins and wife Lynne; sister, Carolyn Chittenden and husband Calvin; nieces, Tammy Chittenden and Misty Thomas of Russellville; nephew, Austin Watkins and wife Chelsey; and great-nephew, Eli Watkins.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Lakeland Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Coffenberry officiating. Burial will follow in Dixon Cemetery in Grand Rivers.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until service time on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville.

IN LOVING MEMORY

Rodney M. Polk, age 78, of Kuttawa, passed away Monday, February 9, 2026 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

He was born November 22, 1947 to the late W.R. and Doris Rushing Polk. Rodney was a dedicated member of Chestnut Oak Church. He was a beloved leader at the church and touched the lives of many with his generosity and kindness. Rodney was deeply committed to his family, who were the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Rodney’s love for music was evident throughout his life. As a young man, he sang with the Melody Makers in high school and continued sharing his gift of song with various groups over the years. He found joy in singing and bringing people together through music.

A Vietnam War veteran, Rodney was a two-time Purple Heart recipient, and he proudly served his country. He was also a member of the American Legion, where he continued to honor the values of service and sacrifice. He was an avid UK Basketball and Lyon County Basketball Fan.

In his free time, Rodney took great pride in caring for his yard, and mowing the lawn was a simple joy that brought him peace. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Betty Smith Polk of Kuttawa; daughter, Angie (Bruce) Lee of Kuttawa; sister, April (Tracy) Woodall of Fredonia; brother, Gregg (Deloris) Polk of Fredonia; daughter-in-law, Corbitt Polk of Nicholasville; grandchildren, Brandon (Elizabeth) Winter, Victoria (Keaton) Shewcraft, Austin Lee, Addison Polk, Malena Polk; great-grandchildren, Lynlee and Lawson Shewcraft; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Rod Polk, Jr.; sister, Yvonne Bynum; brothers, Troy, Charles and Harold Polk.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, February 13, 2026 at Lakeland Funeral Home and again Saturday, February 14, 2026 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Lakeland Funeral Home with Bro. Dan Smith and Bro. Marty Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Chestnut Oak Cemetery with military honors.

IN LOVING MEMORY

Brett Alan Travis, 58, of Paducah, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah.

He was born in Princeton, Kentucky, on December 20, 1967, to his mother, Norma Sue Garner Randolph and his late father, Lonnie Ray Travis. Brett was a graduate of Crittenden County High School, Class of 1985. Brett was a faithful man who loved the Lord with all his heart; he was born again in 1999 and is a member of Heartland Church in Paducah.

Brett spent 40 years selling cars, combining his gift for conversation with his appreciation for classic automobiles. He loved his Seay Motors family where he was a sales manager for many years. He especially loved his boss, Larry Joe Seay, who took him to Nashville to his appointments and not only provided financially, but he was also a true friend to Brett.

Above all, Brett cherished time with his family and especially enjoyed taking them on vacations, including regular Disney trip that became a treasured tradition for his grandchildren, who were a big part of what kept him fighting.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his best friend and beautiful wife of sixteen years, LaDarra Travis; daughter, Andrea (Matthew) Moore of Crittenden County; sons, Justin (Ami) Travis of McCracken County, Cory Prado of Paducah; three sisters, Suzan (Wesley) Dale of Lyon County, Tina Jo Travis of Lyon County, Jennifer (Justin) Alexander of Crittenden County; brother, Daron DePriest of Indianapolis, IN; four grandchildren, Natalie Travis, Emily Travis, Travis Moore, Amelia Moore; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville with Bro. Keith Allred and Bro. Rick Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Caldwell Springs Cemetery in Crittenden County.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Lakeland Funeral Home.

Betty Pallai, age 98, of Kuttawa, formerly of Taylorville, IL, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2026 at Riversbend Retirement Community.

Betty was born July 28, 1927 to the late Chester Earl and Miranda Mae Moore Montgomery. She was a beloved woman whose life was filled with music, laughter, and deep love for her family. She found joy on the water, especially when fishing for salmon, and her beautiful voice was a cherished part of the church choir. Betty loved to dance and was skilled in both square and ballroom dancing, always bringing energy and grace to the floor. Known for her feisty spirit-especially during a lively game of cards-she lived with passion and heart. She taught her whole family how to cook and was a fabulous baker of pies and cookies. Betty also enjoyed gardening in her spare time. Above all else, Betty loved her family deeply, holding them at the center of her life and her greatest joy.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Chris Richards of Kuttawa; adored grandchildren, Mariah (Rickey) Roberts, Travis (Dana) Richards, Joe Lee (Carrie) Pallai and Sean (Fernanda) Pallai; several great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews all whom she loved deeply.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Frank Pallai; son, Joe Pallai and son-in-law, Walt Richards.

A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:30 am Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Eddyville Methodist Church.

Kelly was born November 1, 1961 to the late Webster H. and Dona M Gothan Chase.

She is survived by dear friends, Rondale and Gaye Lynch of Grand Rivers; niece, Renee Chase of California.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary and Timothy Chase.

**SERVICES FOR FRED EDWARDS HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED AS SHOWN BELOW, DUE TO THE IMPENDING WINTER STORM WARNING**

Fred Edwards, age 73, of Kuttawa, passed away January 14, 2026 at Baptist Health Paducah.

Fred was born November 3, 1952 to the late Chester Allen and Dorothy Lee Edwards.

Fred was a true public servant at heart. He spent many years as a 911 dispatcher for Livingston County as well as serving as chief deputy dispatcher. He loved helping and caring for people and was kind hearted and loving. He coached basketball, baseball and the Para Olympics for children. He was an avid baseball fan having a great love for the Cubs. However, his greatest love was for his family, especially being a grandpops.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Lisa Whitaker Edwards; son, Jeremy (Melissa) Edwards of Oak Park, IL; step daughter, Vanessa (Simin) Jakobson of Denmark; step-son, Joseph (Alanna) Sumner of Texas; grandchildren, Owyn, Orla and Ozzie Edwards; step-grandchildren, Abigail, Trevor and Sullivan Jakobson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Bryson.

Linda McKinney-Meyer, age 75, of Eddyville, passed away January 14, 2026 at Deaconess Gateway Medical Center in Evansville, IN.

Linda was born December 20, 1950 to the late Henry Lee and Grace Smith.

She was known for her creative spirit and found great joy in crafting, as well as the freedom of riding motorcycles. Linda was a faithful member of Beech Grove Baptist Church, where her warmth and kindness touched many. She will be remembered for her gentle heart, her passions, and the love she shared with family, friends, and her church community.

She is survived by her adored husband, Jimmie Meyer of Eddyville; daughter, Lori (Steve) Adams of Boonville, IN; sons, Wesley McKinney of Boonville, IN and Russ (Heather) Meyer of Hatfield, IN; sister, Connie (Dave) Krasny of Eddyville; brothers, David (Peggy) Smith of Boonville, IN, Forrest (Elanor) Smith of Chrisney, IN, Daniel (Anna) Smith of Princeton, IN; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles McKinney; sisters, Sandra Phillips and Anna Grace Smith; and grandchild, Cody Meyer.
