🎃 Happy Halloween!
Bring on the costumes, spooky vibes, and sweet treats — we’re celebrating with joy, not guilt. Here’s how we’re embracing a feel-good, balanced Halloween:

🍬Let Go of Food Guilt: Candy is just candy — no shame, just sweetness.
🥳Choose Flexibility Over Restriction: Enjoy the treat without the mental tug-of-war.
🍪Savor Every Bite: Be present with your candy bar or spooky cookie. What does it really taste like?
🎥 Make It a Tradition: Halloween is more than candy — think costumes, pumpkins, scary movies, and laughter.
🧁Find Your Balance: Don’t skip meals to “make room” for treats. Nourish yourself with food, water, and fun — all of it matters.

Remember -- there is no perfect way to do this. Lean into what makes you feel good! Trust yourself.

Orthorexia vs. Healthy Eating: What’s the Difference?

Healthy eating supports well-being—but when the pursuit of “clean” or “pure” food becomes obsessive, it may signal orthorexia. While not formally recognized in the DSM-5, orthorexia is a serious condition that can lead to a diagnosable eating disorder.

Key warning signs to watch for:
- Fixation on food quality – intense focus on purity, cleanliness, or sourcing
- Rigid food rules – strict guidelines about what, when, or how to eat
- Emotional distress – anxiety, guilt, or fear around food choices
- Social withdrawal – avoiding events or relationships due to food concerns
- Physical symptoms – unexplained weight loss, fatigue, or digestive issues

✨ Build self-awareness
✨ Seek support
✨ Practice self-compassion

It’s never too late to ask for help—for yourself or someone you care about. Our team of registered dietitians is here to guide you toward healing and a balanced relationship with food.

Disordered Eating vs. Eating Disorders: Understanding the Differences and Supporting a Loved One

❗Eating disorders—such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder—are clinically diagnosed mental health conditions that require professional care and support.

⚠️Disordered eating, while not meeting the criteria for a formal diagnosis, still involves harmful patterns around food. These may include chronic dieting, skipping meals, experiencing guilt after eating, or fearing certain foods.

Though different in definition, both can involve:
- Struggles with body image
- Anxiety or shame around eating
- Emotional distress related to food

Neither should be dismissed. Every person’s relationship with food deserves compassion and peace ✨

If you find yourself constantly thinking about food, feeling out of control when eating, or overwhelmed by guilt or fear, know that you're not alone—and it's okay to ask for help.

Recovery is possible ❣️ Visit our website to connect with one of our compassionate dietitians and take the first step toward healing.

September is Food Safety Education Month!

Simple steps to keep you and your loved ones safe this season ⬇️

💦 Clean: Wash hands for at least 20 seconds with soap. Sanitize surfaces regularly and use separate cutting boards for raw meats.
🍊 Separate: Keep raw foods apart from ready-to-eat items—both when cooking and shopping.
🌡️ Cook: Use a meat thermometer to ensure safe internal temperatures:
🍗 Chicken: 165°F (74°C)
🐄 Ground beef: 160°F (71°C)
🐟 Fish: 145°F (63°C)
🧊 Chill: Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours and keep your fridge below 40°F (4°C).

A clean kitchen and mindful habits go a long way in protecting your health—and the health of those you love.

Fuel & Hydrate for Fall Sports Success 🍂💪
Your body needs the right energy to perform at its best—before, during, and after your favorite fall sport or activity.

Fuel Up:
🍌 Before activity: Choose a combo of carbohydrates and protein—like a PB&J sandwich—for lasting energy.
🍬 During exercise: Reach for quick fuel like sports chews, an electrolyte drink, or a honey packet to keep you going.
🍗 After activity: Rebuild and recover with a balanced meal—think a chicken wrap paired with fresh fruit.

Hydration Tips:
💧 Start your day with 8–16 oz of water to replenish overnight losses.
🥤 Keep a water bottle handy and sip throughout the day to stay hydrated.
👟 After exercise, rehydrate with water or an electrolyte beverage to restore what you’ve lost.
