✨ At Starkey Hearing Foundation, we have the privilege of witnessing full-circle journeys - and Juan Carlos’ story is one we hold especially close. ✨

Juan Carlos first came to the Foundation as a child in 1995, when Dr. Carla Rondeau brought his family to our co-founder, Mr. Bill Austin. That was the day he received his first hearing aids - and the beginning of a lifelong connection rooted in care, possibility, and belief. Over the years, Juan Carlos remained close to the mission. He returned not just as a patient, but as a volunteer - showing up at missions, learning, helping, and quietly growing into his purpose. Juan Carlos shared, “When I turned 25, I was given the opportunity to join the team. It felt like a privilege: to serve the same community that had once lifted me up.” 🩵

This November, Juan Carlos graduated from the Starkey Hearing Institute as a hearing healthcare professional. Today, he’s working with the Institute in Latin America - helping others rediscover the sounds that shaped his own journey.

In his own words: “My favorite sounds? The ones that remind me I’m alive - like nature… and a little electronic music to bring me joy.” 🎵❤️

✨We proudly honor the graduation of 24 new hearing healthcare professionals from the Starkey Hearing Institute Zambia - a milestone that represents hope, equity, and stronger health systems across the continent through our Institute model over the last 10 years 🎓🌍💙

With leaders from MTN Fintech, Lusaka Stock Exchange, ABSA, representatives from the Ministry of Health, Delta Zeta Sorority National and members of the Foundation’s board in attendance -and guided with warmth and humor by our emcee, Larry Madowo - we honored the devotion and excellence of this year’s graduates. We also shared deep gratitude for Dr. Alfred Mwamba Mwamba and Sheeba Mwamba whose daily leadership continues to shape the Institute’s impact. 🙏🏽✨

A powerful performance by Roy - The Songster, Zambia’s soulful and rising indie talent, added a meaningful touch to the celebration - reminding us how music connects us to culture, community, and possibility. 🎶💛

🇿🇲 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the Starkey Hearing Institute in Zambia and we couldn’t be more proud to celebrate this milestone with a mission impacting hundreds of people needing our services. Today, we stood shoulder to shoulder with our partners, alumni, and new class of graduates, who are changing the landscape of hearing healthcare across Africa.

Alongside friends from Delta Zeta Sorority National Congolese singer-songwriter INNOSS'B journalist Larry Madowo, the Foundation’s Board Members, and our remarkable cohort of past and present graduates, we spent the day providing hearing care, fittings, and follow-up support to hundreds of people.

Every moment - every smile, every first sound, every reunion with hearing - reminds us why we do this work. Together, we are expanding access, building local leadership, and ensuring that hearing health reaches every community that needs it. 💙🌍

For over a decade, Tani Austin's dedication, passion and heart have been visible at the Starkey Hearing Institute in Zambia, and it’s only fitting that her name is too. 🩵 We surprised and honored 'Mama Tani' with a new dormitory at the institute:✨ Mama Tani's Nest ✨.

This new building will house students each year, offering the warmth, confidence and inspiration that Tani’s spirit has always provided. We are grateful for Tani’s legacy of caring and her fierce advocacy for hearing healthcare accessibility, and we couldn’t be prouder to dedicate the newest building in her honor. 🥰

What a memorable mission in Guatemala. 📍 🇬🇹

Our partners, friends, and volunteers came together with one goal, and together we had the privilege of giving the gift of hearing to more than 500 people. Many traveled for hours with hope in their eyes, all for the chance to receive hearing healthcare.

A heartfelt thank you to our partners in Guatemala, Comite Hospital (Comité Pro Ciegos Sordos) and Dr. Marielos de Rueda, and to our incredible local team whose dedication made the experience seamless. 💕

From first fittings to the pure joy of hearing a loved one’s voice again, each experience reminded us why this work matters so deeply. To everyone who brought their compassion, talent, and spirit to this mission, thank you. We’re honored to celebrate Derrick Coleman, NFL trailblazer, Super Bowl champ, and first legally deaf offensive player for his incredible support of Starkey Hearing Foundation through My Cause, My Cleats. Derrick doesn’t just wear a cause on his cleats, he lives it.
From joining mission trips around the world to personally fitting children with hearing devices, Derrick has helped carry the gift of hearing to so many.

Our recent mission in El Salvador was nothing short of extraordinary. With more than 100+ volunteers, board members, staff, and special guests - including The Tenors, Larry Madowo, Delta Zeta chapter leaders, and many more - we came together in service and solidarity.

Our newest Starkey Hearing Institute graduates joined us on the ground as we provided hearing healthcare and fitted hearing aids for over 1,000 people from across the country. Moments like these remind us that hearing connects us all. And when we connect, anything is possible. 🩵✨
