Have you been conditioned not to talk about your feelings?

Let's address that, because to not talk about your feelings is a great way to ensure you'll have a hard time regulating them.

Emotions aren't a bad thing.

Deeming any emotional outburst-- or any emotion other than happiness-- a bad thing is known as "toxic positivity" and does not lend itself to healthy emotional regulation.

Learning to regulate our emotional responses simply translates to:

"I will not allow this feeling/experience to induce internal chaos."

"I will breathe, pause and show my body and mind that I am capable of not reacting immediately."

"I understand that my nervous system is primed to react in ways that keep me safe, but that can also cause unnecessary stress."
