Monk Burin delivered a Wisdom Talk on Four Foundations of Mindfulness in Turbulent Times at Columbia University.

On Thursday, March 5, 2026 between 7.30-8.30 PM, Columbia University Buddhist Association (CUBA) gathered around 25 CUBA members at Choir Room in St. Paul’s Chapel, Columbia University for meditation practice and wisdom talk.

The session started with Nadia, the president of CUBA introducing Monk Burin, Executive Director of The Middle Way Institute to CUBA members. Then Monk Burin led the meditation session for 20 minutes and gave a wisdom talk on, "Four Foundations of Mindfulness in Turbulent Times.”

He explained the concept of Kaya (Body), Vedana (Feeling), Citta (Mind) and Dhamma (Truth) as fundamental reflections to bring stillness to one’s mind. He quoted the maxim of Luang Pu Wat Paknam, founding teacher of The Middle Way Meditation, “Stillness of the mind is the key to success.” Then he summarized the key point that once the mind is still and clear from deeper silence, wisdom from silent mind will rise up to show the way to overcome challenges.

Many participants were really peaceful in meditation practice and very impressed with a wisdom talk. After the main session, many students stayed on to ask questions to monks and temple staff with great enthusiasm on Four Foundations of Mindfulness and its application to better life and better world.

UNIVERSITY LIGHT OF PEACE
ISAT-U MIAGAO CAMPUS

THE MIDDLE WAY MEDITATION INSTITUTE, Iloilo, Philippines has joined with Inner Peace Club ISAT U Miagao to organize Light of Peace event to trigger off the Kindness and Sympathy when inner peace happened in the mind and expanded to family, community and nation.
Then, Venerable Monk Kasidit Viriyaguno, Deputy Director of The Middle Way Meditation Institute has said to the audiences in the event that while Philippines is encountering with gale and thunderstorm from Typhoon but we congregate here with the confidence that the inner brightness from our mind will make us be able to pass through the obstacles from this Typhoon and will bring happiness to the surrounding people. Although amidst the darkness, one candle is lighted up and forward the brightness to the next candle, eventually the world will be bright.
After that, Venerable has guided everyone to unite the mind by meditating in calmness and stillness which is the time that everything is still and silent as it has never happened before in this University for almost 20 minutes.
When the time of brightness was lighted up in the middle of everyone’s mind, Venerable Monk Kasidit, Dr, Loriedee D. Bentula and the honorable faculty of lecturers from the University have jointly lighted up the prime lantern and then all participants have lighted up the lanterns simultaneously together with the sound of the song “Light the Candle”. When the song was ended, everyone has brought each lantern to create the symbol of The Middle Way and The University in each of the heart-shaped picture frame and said together that, “Light of Peace in ISAT-U, we can do it, you can do it too.” After the meditation, Ven. Burin Thitakusalo, Executive Director of The Middle Way Meditation Institute, Inc., has left a message to all the participants from New York City, USA in a video clip and invite all faculty of teachers-lecturers, students to jointly offer the donation fund to support the event of University Light of Peace and then Venerable Monk has given a blessing in Pali language which made everyone felt blissful and delightful.
Before the closing of the event, Fritz Jason Monsale - Advisor of the Inner Peace Club has said about the achievement in organizing this “University Light of Peace” leading by ISAT - U MC and Inner Peace Club and Student Republic and has been supported by the administration of students and Faculty of lecturers and staffs. Many people have seen that this is a progressive step in creating the experience in the University to expand farther than the academic achievement.
