Throughout the month of March, we had the privilege of introducing you to some of the incredible people who make up the Arundel Lodge family. From clinical staff and program leaders to artists, administrators, and community advocates, each person plays an important role in supporting our mission and the individuals we serve.

Behind every program, service, and success story is a dedicated team of compassionate professionals who are committed to helping our clients live meaningful, fulfilling lives. Their passion, expertise, and heart are what make the work of Arundel Lodge possible every single day.

🌟 Meet the Faces of Arundel Lodge 🌟

Next in our March staff spotlight series, we’re excited to introduce Vanessa Valdez, LCPC, MA, BHUCC Director, who has been part of the Arundel Lodge family for about 60 weeks.

Vanessa’s favorite part of her job is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. The services provided through the BHUCC—such as rapid access to therapy, crisis stabilization, and medication management—are deeply needed in the community. She finds it incredibly rewarding to witness the progress, improvement, and personal successes that clients achieve with the support of the team.

Outside of work, Vanessa describes herself as fun and energetic. She enjoys dancing, yoga, crafting, and learning new things, all while raising her three little angels. She’s also a big movie fan and enjoys a mix of action, thriller, and horror films.

Her favorite color is yellow, which perfectly matches a nickname people often call her—“Sunshine.” ☀️

Next in our March staff spotlight series, we’re excited to introduce Marilia Sanches, Fresh Start Program Manager, who has been part of the Arundel Lodge family for over 30 years. Her decades of dedication have helped support and uplift countless individuals in our community.

Marilia’s favorite part of her job is spending quality time with the persons we serve, building connections and supporting them along their journeys.

Outside of work, gardening and running play an important role in Marilia’s overall wellness, helping her stay balanced and energized. 🌱

🌟 Meet the Faces of Arundel Lodge 🌟

Next in our March staff spotlight series, we’re excited to introduce Anita Hagan, Gallery Director and Art Instructor at Arundel Lodge. Anita has been part of the Arundel Lodge family for 3.5 years, bringing creativity, inspiration, and healing through art to the clients she works with each day.

Anita’s favorite part of her job is interacting with clients and sharing the joy and healing benefits of creative expression. Through the gallery program, clients explore a wide variety of art forms including tie-dye, sculpture, felting, mixed media painting, gold leafing, drawing, cartooning, crochet, and textile weaving. Beyond creating art, clients also experience the meditative benefits of the creative process, learn how to share their work with the community through exhibitions, and collaborate with peers while exchanging ideas and encouragement.

Outside of work, Anita is also a professional artist, creating mixed media paintings and block prints. She loves hiking and backpacking, which allow her to connect with the beauty of the natural world. At home, she’s kept entertained by her two rescue cats, Princess Buttercup and Westley (also known as the Dread Pirate Roberts). Anita also enjoys traveling and experiencing different cultures, meeting people from around the world along the way. 🎨

🌟 Meet the Faces of Arundel Lodge 🌟

Next in our March staff spotlight series, we’re excited to introduce Sarah Palmieri, a Rehabilitation Specialist who has been part of the Arundel Lodge family for under two years.

Sarah’s favorite part of her job is seeing clients make progress and witnessing the growth and achievements that come with their recovery journeys.

Originally an immigrant to the United States in 2001, Sarah brings a rich and unique background to the Arundel Lodge community. French is her mother tongue, and she learned English while living in Ghana, West Africa before coming to the U.S. She is also the proud mom of three awesome teenage girls.

Outside of work, Sarah runs a side business as a professional organizer and loves opportunities to learn, teach, and share knowledge with others. In her free time, she enjoys rollerblading, hiking, salsa dancing, and even pretending she can play the guitar. 🎸

🌟 Meet the Faces of Arundel Lodge 🌟

Next in our March staff spotlight series, we’re proud to introduce Rob Emerson, CRNP-PMH, our Medical Director. Rob has been part of the Arundel Lodge family for 15 years, providing dedicated psychiatric care to the clients we serve.

Rob’s favorite part of his work is seeing a new client experience real mental health improvement after treatment. Watching clients make progress and move forward in their recovery journeys is what makes his work especially meaningful.

Outside of work, Rob enjoys spending time with his family. His wife is an English professor at the U.S. Naval Academy, and they have been together for more than 38 years. Their daughter is currently in college double majoring in Chinese and Peace and Conflict Studies. At home, they share their space with two dogs and one cat.

Rob and his family also enjoy eating sushi and traveling locally, finding new places to explore close to home. 🍣

🌟 Meet the Faces of Arundel Lodge 🌟

Next in our March staff spotlight series, we’re excited to introduce Caitlin Jones, an Employment Specialist who has been part of the Arundel Lodge family for about a year and a half.

Caitlin’s favorite part of her job is engaging with the community and helping connect people with opportunities that support their growth and independence.

She is especially passionate about supporting Southern Anne Arundel County, a community she feels doesn’t always get as much attention as northern parts of the county. Having lived there, Caitlin loves the area’s waterman history and strong sense of community.

Caitlin currently lives in Southern Maryland and is an artist and creative, with several murals on display in St. Mary’s County. In her free time, she enjoys painting her nails, playing Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, and exploring nature parks—especially Calvert Cliffs’ Red Trail, one of her favorites.

Caitlin is also a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, loves the color green, looks forward to Cherry Blossom season every year, and says that if it were completely safe, she would absolutely love the chance to pet a bear. 🐻

Melanie’s favorite part of her job is seeing the difference Arundel Lodge makes every day in the lives of our clients. Being part of the work that helps expand programs and support the people we serve is incredibly meaningful to her.

Outside of work, Melanie enjoys walking her dogs, going to the gym, and reorganizing her closet for the 250th time—because there’s always a better way to organize it! 🐶

Angela’s favorite part of her job is building relationships—both with the clients she supports and with the incredible colleagues she works alongside every day. These connections are what make the work meaningful and impactful for her.

Outside of work, Angela has a passion for scuba diving and loves spending time around the water. She also enjoys yoga, cycling, and other water activities, and relaxing at home with her two dogs and her cat. 🌊🐶🐱

Next in our March staff spotlight series, we’re excited to introduce Laura Murphy, SHRM-CP, our Human Resources Director. Laura has been part of the Arundel Lodge family for 20 years (not consecutively) and plays a vital role in supporting the people who make our mission possible.

Laura’s favorite part of her job is welcoming new employees as they begin their journey with Arundel Lodge. She loves seeing the excitement they bring to their roles and takes pride in being part of that experience while supporting both our staff and the overall mission of ALI.

Outside of work, Laura enjoys reading, eating sweets, and diving into true crime podcasts and documentaries. She’s also busy raising two teenagers and shares her home with Cleo the cat and Dutchie, her anxious but lovable dog. 🐱🐶
