🌟 Meet the Faces of Arundel Lodge 🌟

Next in our March staff spotlight series, we’re excited to introduce Carter Heim, our Marketing Director. Carter will celebrate four years with Arundel Lodge this June and helps share the story of the incredible work happening across the agency.

Carter’s favorite part of the job is knowing she is serving an underserved community in her own unique way. She especially enjoys getting to know our clients and hearing their stories. From a marketing perspective, she also loves the creative side of the work—designing graphics, literature, and marketing pieces that help more people learn about the impact Arundel Lodge has in the community.

Originally Maryland born and raised, Carter lived there for 34 years before moving to her dream home in Alabama last May for a slower pace of life. On most weekends, you can find her relaxing in a rocking chair on her screened-in porch with a glass of sweet tea, hand embroidering something creative. She’s also a licensed foster parent and proud dog mom to Magnolia and Poppy, who are always ready for a road trip—whether it’s back to Maryland to see family or down to the Gulf Shore beaches, her favorite place in the world.

Carter recently started her gardening journey and is hoping to grow a huge field of wildflowers by summer—her favorite! 🌼

🌟 Meet the Faces of Arundel Lodge 🌟

Next in our March staff spotlight series, we’re happy to introduce Khadijah Janey, LMSW, an OMHC Therapist who has been part of the Arundel Lodge family for three years.

Khadijah’s favorite part of her job is the opportunity to have a positive impact on the people she comes in contact with each day, whether that’s clients or fellow staff members. Helping support and uplift others is what makes the work meaningful for her.

Outside of work, Khadijah enjoys reading and spending time “dilly dallying,” embracing the importance of slowing down and enjoying life’s simple moments. Her favorite color is purple, which perfectly reflects her vibrant and warm personality. 💜

🌟 Meet the Faces of Arundel Lodge 🌟

Next in our March staff spotlight series, we’re excited to introduce Michelle Lyon, LCPC, Clinical Director of the Marcus Youth and Family Center. Michelle has been part of the Arundel Lodge family for seven years, supporting youth and families in our community.

When asked about her favorite part of the job, Michelle keeps it simple: her clients and her team. The relationships she builds with both are what make the work so meaningful.

Michelle also has a special coworker—her dog Piper, who serves as her “co-therapist” and comes to work with her most days, bringing comfort and smiles to those around her. 🐶

Outside of work, Michelle enjoys singing, baking, cooking, hiking, and traveling. She sings on the worship team at her church, and fun fact: when she first started undergraduate school, she originally planned to become a veterinarian.

🌟 Meet the Faces of Arundel Lodge 🌟

Next in our March staff spotlight series, we’re excited to introduce Shantel Assata, LCPC, our Residential Director. Shantel has been with Arundel Lodge for six months and plays an important role in supporting clients in our Residential Rehabilitation Program (RRP).

Her favorite part of the job is working directly with clients—helping them build mental health awareness and reminding them that their lives are not defined or limited by a diagnosis. Shantel is passionate about showing individuals that while there may not be a definitive cure for mental illness, people can learn to manage their symptoms and live meaningful, fulfilling lives. Seeing clients gain hope, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose in their recovery journey is what makes the work so rewarding for her.

Outside of work, Shantel enjoys staying active, especially in the spring when she can play kickball, tennis, or volleyball. She’s also a big movie buff and loves watching films whenever she can—so much so that she sometimes has to stop herself from slipping famous movie quotes into everyday conversations! 🎬

🌟 Meet the Faces of Arundel Lodge 🌟

Continuing our March staff spotlight series, we’re excited to introduce Amanda Bowen, BS, CPRP, our Director of Compliance and Quality Assurance.

Amanda has been part of the Arundel Lodge family for six years, helping strengthen the systems and processes that support the incredible work happening across the agency. Her favorite part of the job is seeing how everything connects—ensuring that the policies, systems, and behind-the-scenes work all reflect our mission and help the people we serve live meaningful, fulfilling lives.

Originally from the mountains of Northeast Tennessee, Amanda still feels a strong connection to the rural Appalachia community she grew up in (pronounced Apple-at-cha—but she’ll forgive you if you say it differently 😉). She’s a proud fan of Dolly Parton and the Tennessee Vols, a self-described bookworm, and loves spending time cooking and attempting to grow things in her yard—with mixed success.

Amanda and her husband have been married for 19 years and settled in Anne Arundel County after his active duty military service. They have a 15-year-old son, and she makes it back to Tennessee whenever she can—especially to see her niece and nephew, a role she proudly embraces as “the aunt who spoils them.”

She and her husband recently took up golf together and, while she admits she’s objectively terrible at it, she’s surprised by how much she enjoys it! At home, they’re supervised by two small, old-and-grumpy dogs and a very sassy Persian cat who keeps watch over the neighborhood wildlife.

🌟 Meet the Faces of Arundel Lodge 🌟

Next in our March staff spotlight series, we’re excited to introduce Richard P. Michel, Chief Financial Officer.

Richard has been part of the Arundel Lodge family for one year, supporting the organization behind the scenes to help ensure we can continue providing vital services to our community.

When asked about his favorite part of the job, Richard shared that it’s working with the amazing number of kind, caring, and dedicated people who make up the Arundel Lodge team.

Outside of work, family is the most important thing in Richard’s life. He loves spending as much time as possible with his five grandsons. He’s also a big fan of good food and great company—whether enjoying a meal at home or at a favorite restaurant. When he’s not doing that, you might find him on the golf course, where he says there’s nowhere he’d rather be (even if he’s somewhere in the middle of the leaderboard!). ⛳

Richard also loves dogs and fondly remembers the three family dogs they lost a few years ago, all within the same month.

🌟 Meet the Faces of Arundel Lodge 🌟

This March, we’re excited to introduce you to some of the friendly faces that make up the Arundel Lodge family. The people behind our mission are the heart of everything we do, and we’re proud to highlight the individuals who work every day to make a difference in our community.

Over the next few weeks, you’ll get to know some of the changemakers here at the Lodge—learning more about who they are, the work they do, and the passion they bring to supporting those we serve.

To kick off our March staff spotlight series, we’re excited to introduce Dr. Simone Blanchard, Chief Clinical Officer.

Dr. Blanchard has been part of the Arundel Lodge family for 1 year and 10 months, helping guide our clinical programs and ensuring the highest quality of care for those we serve.

Her favorite part of the job? Developing quality measures and systems that support meaningful outcomes for our clients. She takes great pride in nurturing systems that help people achieve their best possible outcomes.

Outside of work, Dr. Blanchard enjoys spending time with her family and her cat, Alia—who, according to Dr. Blanchard, is very good at reminding her to relax and take a nap when needed. 🐱
