Between the pressure to perform at school, the unwritten rules of social dynamics, and the constant noise of the digital world, it makes total sense if your teen feels constantly overwhelmed.

Adolescent Therapy isn't about "fixing" them, because they aren't broken. It’s about giving them a space that is 100% theirs to vent, question, develop tools to grow and cope, and just BE without expectations.

Positive thinking often ignores reality. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy analyzes reality. This means that CBT is not about Positive Thinking, but rather about Realistic Thinking.

Think about it this way: if your house is on fire, you can go into:
• Panic Thinking: "I am going to die."
• Denial: "This is fine! It's nice and warm."
• CBT-driven mindset: "My house is on fire. This is dangerous. I need to get out immediately."

During our sessions, we would not just pretend the fire isn't there; we would focus on developing the clarity to grab the extinguisher.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Theory and incorporates aspects of Psychodynamic and Person-Centered theories. Foundational in my work with clients is the exploration of the connection between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. As my clients develop an increased under...

When emotions are "tangled" and undefined, they feel overwhelming because your brain remains in a high-alert, reactive state.

When you work with a therapist to put specific names to vague feelings (aka Affect Labeling), you actually down-regulate your emotional reactivity. You are shifting your brain from "panic mode" into "problem-solving mode."

We have a team of specialists ready to help you untangle your feelings → slatetherapy.com/team

When we look at the year ahead through a therapeutic lens, the things we get most excited about aren't usually the big, shiny milestones. They are the quiet, internal shifts that change how we experience our daily lives.

It’s the first time you enforce a boundary without apologizing. It’s the moment you catch a negative thought pattern and choose a different route. It’s the relief of finally trusting your own gut.

2026 isn't just about what you achieve—it's about who you become in the process.

Our philosophy is simple: sustainable growth beats stressful perfection every single time.

Here's our 3-point mental health re-set that fosters a healthier mindset:
✨ Forget the life-changing resolution. What's one tiny, easy habit you can stick to? (e.g., Five minutes of quiet time. One extra glass of water.)
✨ Embrace the mess. Life is messy, and that's where the good stuff happens! A pivot is not a failure, it's just a smarter route.
✨ Choose peace over productivity. Focus on intentions that nourish your mind and relationships, not just checking boxes.

This is your reminder to stop forcing yourself into "peak performance" mode 24/7 ⏰. You are not a machine; you are a complex, beautiful human being.

If you're feeling slow, exhausted, or not “productive,” that is a sign your mind and body are in a necessary season of rest. Downtime is not a failure; it's the fuel you need for your next stage of growth.

The holidays often come with high expectations. That picture-perfect family gathering you see in movies? It can set us up for massive stress and unexpected family conflict.

The pressure to make everything "magical" often leads to:
✖️Burnout, by trying to do too much
✖️Conflict, with old family dynamics resurfacing
✖️Disappointment, when reality doesn't match the expectation

Here’s the key takeaway: you don't have to solve everything or make everyone happy. Focus on what is manageable, what brings you genuine joy, and set gentle boundaries to protect your peace. ✨

Trying to solve every global crisis, change someone’s mind, or predict the future is a one-way ticket to burnout.

The real game-changer is learning to accept the outside noise, and then gently refocusing all that amazing energy back into your power zone. It’s not about ignoring your feelings about the uncontrollable or becoming a robot. It’s about learning to feel your frustration when things go sideways, and then gently steering your focus back to where you have real influence.

The holidays often feel less like joy and more like a marathon: festive family drama, gift-buying panic disguised as generosity, obligatory parties, and endless children’s performances. Amid it all, I sometimes wonder where I am; lost in the noise of carols ringing from every speaker, and my equilibrium drowned out by forced cheer. 💥

If you’re anything like me, just a touch of grinchy, you may find recharging difficult. After a family gathering where boundaries blur and smiles feel rehearsed, I crave silence.

Five minutes of no music, no phone, no movement—just sitting alone, letting the nervous system unclench and the emotions surface or settle. No agenda, no performance, no judgment. Simply being 🧘. You, the silence, and nothing else.

This season, consider giving yourself the quiet gift of silence, solitude, and stillness. 🎁

Although it doesn’t always feel like it, change is possible. It may not be the kind of change we imagined, but as we discover new freedoms—we can choose differently than we’ve chosen before.

Do you ever think about that college bestie? The friend you used to see every single weekend, who knew all your secrets?...
12/12/2025

Do you ever think about that college bestie? The friend you used to see every single weekend, who knew all your secrets? As we evolve, it's completely normal to look up and realize some connections just... don't quite fit the mold of your life anymore.

And here’s the therapeutic truth we need to normalize:
Outgrowing a friendship is not a personal failure. It's a healthy, natural, and even necessary sign of your personal evolution.

You are not "bad" for moving on; you are simply growing up. 🌱
