Is your brain stuck on "High Alert"? In a world that demands 24/7 productivity, choosing to rest isn't just a break; it’s a radical act of self-preservation.

This long weekend, we're inviting you to try a radical experiment: The Digital Detox.

When we're constantly bombarded by pings, notifications, and "breaking news" feeds, our nervous systems never actually get the chance to power down. Reclaim your mental autonomy and give your brain the silence it’s been craving. Your nervous system will thank you.

At Slate, we're on a mission to demystify therapy. While our clinicians spend their hours supporting individuals and couples, there are certain "universal truths" they wish they could shout from the rooftops.

We went behind the scenes with four of our team members and asked them for their takeaways.

It's been easy to feel like you’re being swept up in a current you didn't ask to swim in. When your world feels out of control, the best thing you can do is narrow your focus. Here’s how to protect your peace (and your family’s) when things feel heavy:

📺 Audit the Noise: You don’t need a play-by-play 24/7. Set a "check-in" time for news or social media, then close the apps.
🤍 The "Control Circle": Sit down with your partner or kids and talk about what you can control: your kindness to neighbors, your evening routine, and how you support one another.
💬 Narrate the Calm: Kids (and teens!) pick up on "vibe shift." If you’re feeling anxious, it’s okay to say: "There is a lot happening right now, so I’m going to take a walk to clear my head."
☕ Physical Grounding: Heavy blankets, a warm cup of tea, or a family game night can do wonders for a dysregulated nervous system.

Remember, you aren't "ignoring" the world; you're refueling so you have the strength to show up for it.

In the midst of national political attention and legal altercations over federal enforcement, what’s clear is this: Minneapolis is not silent. Our community continues to show up for each other, calling for accountability, advocating for change, and supporting neighbors affected by fear and uncertainty.

Compassion and community matter. Whether through peaceful participation in events, offering support to those in need, or engaging in dialogue with local leaders, each Minnesota voice contributes to shaping the future of our shared home.

We want our community to know you are not alone. At times like these, compassion, connection, and access to support matter more than ever. We stand in unity with our community, committed to compassion, dignity, and emotional well-being for all.

Minneapolis is our city, and we stand with her.
While we don’t have words to describe the inexplicable, we will be present.
While we watch as some try to excuse the inexcusable, we will hold truth.
While we witness violence being normalized, we uplift the true strength of connection.
And, while we may feel exhausted, we will know persistence.

We continue to stand with all members of our community as we encounter pain, fear, tragedy, and terror. We believe in the courage it takes to help the most vulnerable. No one needs to carry this alone.

Great relationships require more than just love; they require curiosity.

It is easy to get into a "business partnership" rhythm with your significant other: managing schedules, bills, and household logistics. But when was the last time you checked in on the emotional logistics of your partnership?

Positive thinking often ignores reality. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy analyzes reality. This means that CBT is not about Positive Thinking, but rather about Realistic Thinking.

Think about it this way: if your house is on fire, you can go into:
• Panic Thinking: "I am going to die."
• Denial: "This is fine! It's nice and warm."
• CBT-driven mindset: "My house is on fire. This is dangerous. I need to get out immediately."

During our sessions, we would not just pretend the fire isn't there; we would focus on developing the clarity to grab the extinguisher.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Theory and incorporates aspects of Psychodynamic and Person-Centered theories. Foundational in my work with clients is the exploration of the connection between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. As my clients develop an increased under...

When emotions are "tangled" and undefined, they feel overwhelming because your brain remains in a high-alert, reactive state.

When you work with a therapist to put specific names to vague feelings (aka Affect Labeling), you actually down-regulate your emotional reactivity. You are shifting your brain from "panic mode" into "problem-solving mode."

We have a team of specialists ready to help you untangle your feelings → slatetherapy.com/team
