If you have a flood-related injury or illness, please seek medical help as soon as you can. Do not try to walk or drive through water deeper than 6 inches, as you can quickly become trapped. Within 24-48 hours of flooding a building, mold can begin spreading and releasing dangerous toxins. If you have any breathing problems (like asthma, COPD, pneumonia, severe allergies, or a weak immune system), do not reenter a flooded building until it has been inspected and remediated. Even people without breathing conditions can become severely ill from mold toxins. This article gives basic instructions about how to dry out your home and dispose of moldy items with caution. Any wooden flooring, drywall, and insulation that was underwater will usually have to be cut out and replaced.
