Our Story
The history of the New Jersey Institute for Disabilities is one of the great success stories of the state. Originally incorporated in 1949 as the Cerebral Palsy Association of Middlesex County, the Agency found its first location in an abandoned County garage in Perth Amboy. Since that time, the Agency has evolved into one of the most comprehensive and well respected community agencies in New Jersey dedicated to the care and treatment of children and adults with developmental and related disabilities. In 2007, the agency service-marked a new name: New Jersey Institute for Disabilities (NJID) which more descriptive of the expansive scope of the agency.
