šŸ„‹ Who else has smelly kids and had to clean their toilets multiple times a week? I just discovered my new favorite toilet bowl cleaner today and wanted to share the exciting discovery! šŸ˜† Sprinkle Bon Ami on the bowl, followed by a few drops of Citrus Twist and scrub the smell away! It smells so cheerful in there now 😊 Drop me a comment if you’re going to try this!

Now that we are back in the swing of home life after three weeks in Colorado and 2.5 weeks in a small camper, I’ve made it my mission to make Veg packed foods that Isla will love to eat. At nearly two, she is by far my most challenging eater, and I’ve had my challengers. These sweet potato and spinach muffins from ā€˜s Green Little Kitchen cookbook are fresh out of the oven and she is devouring them as fast as her little hands and mouth can go. I didn’t feel like grating 2TBSP of Lemon Zest, so I simply sub’d 7 drops of lemon essential oil, which is pressed straight from the rinds of organic Sicilian lemons. Earlier this week, she devoured some zucchini fritters! She doesn’t know that her mama is doing a happy dance of relief to finally see her eating veggies — and that without sugar!! Do you or did you have picky toddlers? What types of veggie meals did they take to? Send me all your ideas!

We’ve lost track of time, that hungry master of our lives that urges us to hurry and busy ourselves with endless tasks that lead nowhere. We’ve slowed our rhythm to watch the birds forage, the fauns bounce across the gravel roads to follow their mamas, and the dusk foxes sneak through the quiet town. The boys have grown brave, curious and adventurous, wading through icy mountain stream swimming holes and helping Papa with the camper. We will start home in a few days, probably putting on the mental brakes hoping to prolong this feeling of mountain life. @ Lake Irwin Crested Butte, Colorado

My #1 travel essential is my essential oils. I try to think of all the possible scenarios and bring an oil for that.
We used all of these things on just one hike with the kids, which didn’t add much weight at all to my pack.
Bug Off—the flies and mosquitos are such a pest in the summer Colorado mountains.
DigestZen—one of our kids is always complaining of tummy aches.
Lemon—to cleanse my hands and ease anxious feelings for another child. We used it another time for the sniffles.
Breathe—to help us breathe easier in the high altitude, and to help one relative child with restricted airways.
Peppermint beadlets—to open our air passages and to help with dry stopped up noses.
Correct-X—the ointment that soothes an cleanses trail scrapes.
Chapstick—because this air is sooooo dry.

šŸ‘©ā€šŸ³The flavors that essential oils add to food is hard to describe until you've experience it.
Herbs are nice, but the essential oils from those herbs give a bigger flare on the tongue.
This salt blend has always been one of my favorites.
šŸ…Sprinkle it on chopped cherry tomatoes, scrambled eggs, stir fry.
For steak or roast:
🄩Sprinkle Provence seasoning salt over cut of meat, rub in and marinate for 3-4 hours. The salt will tenderize the fibers and draw out moisture at first, then pull the flavors and moisture back into it.

šŸ…Our tomato and jalapeño finally grew big enough to harvest for Salsa! šŸ… yes, I did mean to type tomato and jalapeño—singular 🤨 Those were the two buds we were able to shield from Isla’s little hands. Next summer we plan to have raised beds and tomato pots, and loads of salsa! These two vegetables are the first I’ve planted and grown as a grown up, and they were beautiful. Are you a seasoned pro at vegetable gardening? What are your tips for a beginner? I’m sure I need to start my plan this year in order to be ready to go in the spring. It always seems to creep up on me, which is why we have never started! But we have an acre, so there’s no reason not to grow some of our own food šŸ… Some veggies on my list for next summer are Tomatoes, Peppers, Lettuce, green onions, sweet potatoes, new potatoes, corn, zucchini, yellow squash (send all of your squash bug tips!), egg plant, and whatever other fun variations I can find.

There is sharpie on my couch, broken blinds, occasional p**p on the floor, work & business going undone, personal projects lingering unfinished for weeks and a growing want to read book list. This is Life right now and I’ve been wrestling hard with God about this calling to an engaged and present motherhood. My Type 3 wants to get things done, to check things off of a work list, to feel accomplished in personal goals. Slowly and sometimes painfully, Holy Spirit has been gently nudging me to surrender to this calling. I’ve removed Facebook and messenger from my phone, a conduit for distraction and anxiety. The kids and I go for a walk around the neighborhood and stop to swing at the park every morning. We implemented a screen time fast for the kids who were enacting the teen mouthed behavior of worthless cartoon characters. We are listening our way through the 150 year old pioneer story of little Laura Engalls and using our wonder and imaginations to understand ourselves in light of people like us who lived long ago. These simple changes are allowing us to breathe easier and to work on our family kindness and communication (it’s hard to be kind to your siblings when you’ve been cooped up with them 24/7 for 3 months!). I’m also falling in love with my big camera again, re inspired in the absence of mind numbing distractions. I want to really see and live in these joyous moments of water hoses aimed at brothers in visceral delight, to see my children and to deeply understand and know their hearts. For after all, they are my most precious gifts from above, entrusted to me for a v***r of time and space. I am called to train and to love them in faith that they will grow up to love God, each other and the world, and to treat all with curiosity and kindness.

This spring has been especially rainy and cool, mixed with a few hot and humid days.
We are seasoned Oklahomans, and when the air is cool, you go outside and enjoy it for all it's worth...because you know that sweltering 100+degree temps are coming tomorrow and you won't reemerge until Halloween.
The mosquitos and ticks have really enjoyed themselves this spring too...gross.
But I don't think they should have all the fun outside!
TerraShield is my tried and true go to outdoor blend and we've been using it lots and lots lately.
I have another super outdoor blend recipe that I shared last summer. If you scroll back far enough, you'll find it here.

Do the mosquitos like you too?
