A few months ago, I was led through an exercise that started with writing down EVERY thing I accomplished in the last year. We were encouraged to use socials, calendars, our camera roll or whatever else helped jog our memory. It was insane how many things I'd forgotten or not "counted" as an accomplishment.
It was moving and shocking to be honest. I had not given myself near the credit I deserved.
So, maybe consider this before you think about resolutions or goal setting. Sit down and take the space to acknowledge your last year. Write it ALL down. Personal, relationships, family, career, health... everything. Don't think about what you need to change or do better or not do again... yet. Just sit with this.
A few things could be true for you as you complete this:
1. It gives you a minute to appreciate you.
2. When you're doing things like this, it triggers dopamine, which creates cognitive flexibility, creativity, and problem solving skills.
3. Being proud of yourself can lead to bolder, braver goals and plans for the next year.
4. You now have a comprehensive list of things and can go on to step two. Stay tuned for that one.
Check in below and tell me if you did it. What do you think? Did you learn anything? What were your top accomplishments for the year?
