Not all ankle sprains are the same.

A low ankle sprain affects the ligaments on the outside of the ankle and is the most common type. A high ankle sprain involves the syndesmosis between the tibia and fibula and often takes longer to heal.

In some injuries, athletes can experience both at the same time, which can significantly extend recovery.

In this new blog post, Dr. John Paul Elton, foot and ankle specialist at Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery, explains the key differences and why it matters for recovery.

Can you ski after ankle replacement? For many patients, yes with the right recovery and preparation.

According to Dr. Elton, modern ankle replacement can allow motivated patients to return to skiing once strength balance and control are restored.

Most patients are not cleared until nine to twelve months after surgery, and success depends on smart progression not rushing the process. Skiing places unique demands on the ankle, making conditioning and realistic expectations essential.

With proper guidance, many patients do make it back to the slopes. Click here to learn more: https://buff.ly/52QBM4a
