Advent is a season of preparation for the birth of Jesus, but sometimes we're also preparing to carry our grief through the Christmas season. Let's turn to Baby Jesus during Advent when we need solace and strength.

Thanks for nothing, Birth Control! You have single-handedly dumbed down generations of doctors that the solution for women's gynecological issues is "birth control." Not to mention anxiety, depression, blood clots, high blood pressure and breast cancer. Over-the-counter birth control pushing is just more evidence of LESS concern for women's health & wellbeing, just like mail-order abortion pills. This is the opposite of Reproductive Health, which SHOULD mean overseeing the health & wellbeing of the reproductive system, not shutting it down & telling women to figure it out in their own.

P R O G E S T E R ON E

Progesterone is a true shape-shifter and the most enigmatic of hormones. It's responsive, relational, and endlessly fascinating. And it can behave entirely differently depending on estrogen, gut health, the state of the nervous system, and many other factors.

• In the uterus, it can either enrich the lining or keep it thin and quiet.

• In the brain, it can calm GABA receptors or, in some women, stir anxiety.

• In metabolism, it both boosts metabolic rate and temporarily reduces insulin sensitivity as part of the body’s adaptive rhythm.

It also increases the body’s requirement for sodium, protein, rest, and basically everything. So, when you're making (or taking) progesterone, it will demand MORE of everything you need.

💬 Drop your progesterone thoughts or questions below, and I’ll bring them to Sarah E Hill during our Instagram Live this week:

"If you’ve never considered how important vitamin D is for your fertility and during pregnancy, you might be shocked by how much this “sunshine vitamin” affects far more than just your skin tone. From bone health to blood sugar stabilization, and blood pressure management to mood, vitamin D is crucial for every woman, especially those trying to conceive.

But what levels are optimal for functional fertility? Should every woman take a supplement, regardless of her health status and geographic location? What happens when levels are sub-optimal? Let’s discuss that and more below."

The "sunshine vitamin" is crucial in more ways than you think.

Great to see the mission expanding!

“In Portugal, there is increasing interest in natural methods among those concerned about contraception’s side effects or seeking alternatives to IVF. However, some colleagues remain skeptical, often perceiving these approaches as outdated. Dr. Almeida is working to establish partnerships that support the integration of NaProTechnology into medical education, demonstrating that these natural methods offer scientifically valid and healthier alternatives to the artificial solutions found in mainstream medicine.”

Dr. Ana Almeida, a Medical Consultant trained by the Saint Paul VI Institute Education Program, is contributing to the expansion of life-affirming women’s health care from Omaha to Portugal, showcasing the global impact of your support!

From Santarém, Portugal, Dr. Almeida, a family medicine specialist, serves a diverse patient base at Saint Dominic’s Health Care Unit. During her residency, she faced a mandate to prescribe contraceptives but sought alternatives, which led her to the NaProTechnology program. Now pursuing dual certification to practice and teach the Creighton Model FertilityCare System, she aims to empower her patients with effective solutions that address the root causes of infertility.

Dr. Almeida’s passion for NaProTechnology was ignited in medical school through guidance from her spiritual director. By applying these methods to understand her own cycle, she strengthened her dedication to family medicine. “Understanding our body aligns us with our Creator’s design,” she shares, viewing the reproductive cycle as a profound gift. One of her patients, a father of two, remarked, “Learning about my wife’s cycle deepened my appreciation for our family’s purpose.”
