New moms often worry that their baby isn’t getting what they need because they want to return to the breast frequently.

In the first month, babies are learning what hungry and full feels like, and how to fill their tummies up.

Their intake volume varies every feeding depending how hungry they are. Each time they latch, they’re getting exactly what they need, as breastmilk is bioavailable and constantly adjusting to meet their specific growth, hydration, and immunity needs.

You can expect them to clusterfeed weekly as your supply continued to increase and regulate, and then at one month it never increases again.

No two feedings are the same- just as no two babies are either.

And…during holidays or family gatherings, you may hear comments like, ‘They’re eating again?’ Often it simply comes from not understanding how normal responsive feeding is. It’s more than okay to smile, shrug it off, and keep following your baby’s cues. You’re doing exactly what your baby needs—even when others don’t fully understand it.

The holiday season can be a joyful time, but it can also bring extra stress, especially for new parents and those navigating perinatal mental health challenges.

It’s important to prioritize your mental well-being, even amid the hustle and bustle.

✨Take time to set boundaries.
✨Ask for support when you need it.
✨Give yourself grace.
✨You choose who holds the baby, do not feel obligated to pass the baby around.

The holidays don’t have to be perfect- what matters most is that you and your family are healthy and present.

Remember, it’s okay to say not to certain obligations, take breaks when you need them, and lean on your loved ones.

Your mental health should always come first, and it’s okay to adjust traditions or expectations to care for yourself and your family.

Your well-being is just as important as any holiday celebration.

Physiologic newborn care is simple but powerful—keeping baby close, following their cues, and trusting that frequent feeding and contact are normal. When we understand what babies truly need, our expectations shift, and the whole journey feels a little gentler.
