Momentum Lactation

Momentum Lactation Breastfeeding support to include lactation consultation, support group, and classes. Louis Metro Area. Most clinical consults are covered by insurance.

Momentum Lactation was founded in 2017 with the goal of providing greater access to breastfeeding support in the Edwardsville and St. Alisa worked in the community in a hospital setting for many years and realized that many Mothers needed more support and information after they leave the hospital to be successful on their breastfeeding journey. With decades of experience supporting and educating new mothers through various modalities, and an expert in clinical lactation, she founded Momentum Lactation to include needed access and support missing in the hospital and community. Alisa works with physicians and other care providers in the community and has built a strong referral network in the area for a variety of breastfeeding and post partum issues and support. Families can now receive office, home or virtual visits in the early days at home, as well as a community of other moms in our monthly Breastfeeding Mom’s Meet Ups. Common types of issues addressed include, low milk supply, painful latch, baby weight loss, pediatrician concerns related to feeding or growth, getting a back to work plan and just managing the breastfeeding routine and lifestyle. We look forward to serving you to help you meet your breastfeeding goals along your personal journey.

Thinking about how dads fit into pregnancy? Check out this interview with Dr. Ed Stephens!

Bringing fathers into pregnancy is more than a nice idea — it’s essential for the health of the whole family.

Dr. Stephens’ “Bringing Fathers Into Pregnancy” questionnaire helps screen for paternal mental health risks early, strengthen partner connection, and support bonding with baby.

Did you know 1 in 10 dads experience postpartum depression, yet few are ever screened or supported.

When fathers are included in prenatal care, everyone benefits — stronger relationships, healthier parents, and more secure babies. 🌱

Let’s normalize supporting both parents from the very start. 🤝🤝

Bringing Fathers into Pregnancy supports dads’ mental health, prevents postpartum depression, and helps families give babies a healthier start

Think your baby has a tongue tie? Check out this interview with Dr. Theresa Horton and our thoughts below!

Before considering surgery- many babies benefit from a comprehensive, team-based approach.

Skilled lactation support and gentle bodywork—such as chiropractic, craniosacral fascial therapy, or myofascial release—can help address underlying tension, improve feeding mechanics, and support overall function.

Things to consider- There remains no uniform guidance from otolaryngology associations for:
〰️ grading the severity of a tongue-tie
〰️ determining how much revision to perform
〰️ specific post-op care protocols

While a frenotomy may offer benefits like:
✨ reduced ni**le pain or improved latch
✨ more effective milk transfer
✨ appropriate oral development & speech
✨ promote nasal breathing

it also carries risks
⚠️ such as bleeding
⚠️ infection
⚠️ feeding aversion/regression

AND, it doesn’t always improve feeding outcomes.

The best path forward is always independent evaluation by a board-certified lactation consultant and qualified feeding or ENT professionals—not relying solely on Facebook mom groups or anecdotal advice.

You and your baby deserve expert support, individualized care, and time to explore all conservative options before surgery becomes the first step. 🤍

Many new parents worry tongue-tie could be the cause of breastfeeding problems, but the American Academy of Pediatrics says surgery shouldn’t be the first step.

We love a good myth to bust — especially when it makes breastfeeding simpler and more supported. 💛

In our region, vitamin D levels tend to dip low this time of year (thank you, cloudy skies and shorter days 🌥️), which makes this topic especially timely.

Swipe through to see how motherbaby can keep those levels glowing strong all season long. ☀️✨
