We love celebrating the wins — big and small — with the families we serve. 🧡

One parent recently shared an update that truly meant the world to our team:

“Our daughter is now reading at grade level and is nearly caught up in math. Even more importantly, her confidence has grown tremendously. She’s excited to get on the bus and go to school, is journaling, reading for fun, and is enjoying the social parts of school again.

With the right diagnosis, thoughtful evaluation, and support navigating accommodations, she now has tools not just to get by — but to thrive. She is even encouraging classmates to keep trying when things feel hard.

Stories like this are why we do what we do. Thank you for trusting Metro East Therapy to be part of your child’s journey. 💚

Hey Miss Meagan… What is one of your favorite things about teletherapy?

“You never know who will join your session!”

One of our wonderful teletherapy clients lives on a farm and recently introduced us to their baby goat, Ducky. Moments like this are such a special reminder of how teletherapy allows us to meet clients in their real, everyday environments.

And honestly… Ducky was a great listener.

January can’t escape us without stopping to smell the roses at least once 🌹

⏰This month marks 10 YEARS since we opened our doors. Wow, time is a weird concept isn’t it?!

“When I first started dreaming of opening my own practice, it was because I desperately wanted to work with struggling readers. At that time, having a child diagnosed with dyslexia meant very little resources and support, and I wanted to be a part of something important. So I bravely and naively jumped in. 🤞

I am proud and honored to say that in the last 10 years, I have been able to watch families walk through our door feeling desperate, and leaving feeling empowered. I have spoken at countless conferences, developed an immense amount of PD for my fellow SLP colleagues but also schools, and watched my fellow clinicians blossom.

None of this has been a walk in the park. When you run a business, you’re often in a vulnerable position. I have had to make hard decisions with countless sleepless nights and shed many tears over the stress of decisions, but under no circumstances would I trade this path.

🙏🏼Thank you to the wonderful community who has leaned into my message and allowed me to stay put and thrive. 🙏🏼Thank you to my colleagues who have kept me afloat and pulled me along when I was not feeling my best. 🙏🏼And thank you to my most beautiful and supportive family, who has come along for this insane ride while cheering me along.

What’s in store the next 10 years? I hope more public awareness, bigger growth, and more support for our community. Cheers 🥂 “ - owner, Dr. Maggie Block

👐Happy New Year Family & Friends! We may be starting a new year (Welcome 2026!!), but we're halfway through the current school year and this is a big milestone!✏️🖍️📖📓

Did you know...

Halfway through the school year is often when gaps start to show. Especially in reading, spelling, writing, and language skills.

If your child is showing signs of struggle, a quick screening can help us understand how to support them next! It is important to note, a screening doesn't mean something is wrong. It means we get clarity, direction, and a plan!

Email Miss Steffany (steffany@metroeasttherapy.com) to inquire about scheduling a screening!

Awareness Changes Lives - DLD is 50 times more prevalent than hearing impairment and five times more prevalent than autism.

put together a 💙NEW definition of dyslexia, and we finally feel like a discussion of the CRITICAL role of oral language skills is HAPPENING ⭐️

It doesn't seem possible, but it is already time for parent/teacher conferences for many area schools.😱 If you are a parent worried about your child, you are anxiously waiting to ask his/her teacher the most important question to date, "Is my child making progress?" 🤔

And guess what your child's teacher will say? "Yes.”

Teachers are with your child every day, so YES they will see growth and we always want to share as many positives as possible with families. Not to mention, your child inevitably WILL be making some progress.

Why do we NOT recommend JUST asking if they are making progress? We refer to this as the "developmental effect," which means that children by the very nature of growing WILL learn. This unforunately means that there is a tendency to attribute a child's progress to what is really just a child growing and developing, but it has less to do with meaningful progress made through actual instruction.

🗣Here are some questions that we recommend asking that may give you a better idea of growth instead of "Is he making progress?”:

👉🏻"Are they making progress at the same pace as their peers?"
👉🏻"Are you finding they need lots of repetition?"
👉🏻"Are they retaining information or do you have to reteach it a lot?"
👉🏻"Are they avoiding doing any of the work?"
👉🏻"Are they learning in some areas more easily than others?"
👉🏻"Can you tell me about specific skills you see that are still difficult?"

By asking these types of questions, you may feel more confident in understanding whether or not your child is where they need to be.

☑️One last tip. If your child has dyslexia, "Keep practicing reading, it will just click" does not apply to them 😉

📣📣📣Our office is on the hunt for an eager, certified TEACHER to add to our office personnel. This person would work alongside our speech language pathologists and occupational therapists to help provide educational support. Do you think you may be a good fit? We welcome teachers that feel confident working with kindergarten and up, in all content areas! An ideal candidate would love to work after school an extra 4 hours/week! ✏📚📓
