Postpartum leaks arenโ€™t always about weakness.
Theyโ€™re often about connection.

Research shows that simply learning how to find and contract the pelvic floor muscles can improve postpartum stress urinary incontinence (SUI). With pelvic floor education from a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist (PFPT)โ€”including cueing and biofeedbackโ€”people improve awareness and coordination of their pelvic floor.

Before strengthening comes understanding.
And that matters more than most people realize.

โœจ Pelvic floor rehab starts with education, not guesswork.

Give us a call if you struggle with SUI - we can help!

๐Ÿ’ก Did You Know?

32% of women who know they have pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) are not able to correctly contract their pelvic floor muscles without cueing.

That means nearly 1 in 3 women could benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy (PFPT) to learn how to properly activate and coordinate these muscles.

Pelvic floor muscle contraction isnโ€™t always intuitive, and doing it incorrectly or inconsistently can limit progress or even worsen symptoms. With skilled guidance, PFPT helps:
โœ” Improve muscle awareness and coordination
โœ” Support bladder and pelvic organs
โœ” Reduce leakage and heaviness symptoms
โœ” Build confidence in movement and daily activities

If youโ€™ve been told to โ€œjust do Kegelsโ€ but arenโ€™t sure youโ€™re doing them right, youโ€™re not alone, and help is available.

๐Ÿ“ Effingham Pelvic Health and Wellness
We specialize in individualized, one-on-one pelvic floor care to help you feel stronger, supported, and informed about your body.

December is Constipation Awareness Month

If you need constipation help, here are some simple tips:

โ€ข Water is key โ€” it lubricates stool
โ€ข Eat slowly and chew your food
โ€ข Take a short walk after meals
โ€ข Sit on the toilet for 5 minutes (donโ€™t rush)
โ€ข Be consistent โ€” eat and use the bathroom around the same times daily
โ€ข Warm drinks or coffee in the morning can help
โ€ข Sip water with meals
โ€ข Limit high-FODMAP foods and carbonated drinks if bloated
โ€ข Use a squatty potty โ€” lean forward or back and see what works best

๐Ÿš† Your body likes routine. Stay on the train, donโ€™t keep jumping tracks.

If you notice these tips do not help get things moving, give us a call. We can help!

๐ŸŒฟ Struggling With GI Issues? Youโ€™re Not Alone.

Did you know that GI issues affect up to 40% of the population? One of the most commonโ€”but least talked aboutโ€”causes of chronic constipation is a pelvic floor condition called Dyssynergic Defecation.

๐Ÿ’ก What Is Dyssynergic Defecation?

Instead of relaxing during a bowel movement, the pelvic floor muscles tighten, making it difficult or painful to pass stool.
This is a form of pelvic floor dysfunction, and most people donโ€™t even know itโ€™s happening.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Itโ€™s found in about 40% of patients with chronic constipation.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ Why Women Are Affected More

Chronic constipation is twice as common in women, often linked to pregnancy, childbirth, hormonal changes, and pelvic floor stress.

โœจ The Good News

You can retrain your pelvic floor.

At Effingham Pelvic Health & Wellness, we teach patients how to relax and coordinate these muscles properly, improving bowel movements and reducing discomfort.

If youโ€™ve been told to โ€œjust eat more fiberโ€ and nothing has changedโ€”there may be more going on.

๐Ÿ“ž 217-705-5077 Reach out to schedule a consultation and learn how pelvic floor therapy can support healthy GI function.
