Today, we celebrate and recognize the dedication of two board members who are also social workers during National Social Work Month.

Britt Wendling serves as the Guidance Counselor at Effingham Junior High School and Meghan Rewers is the Executive Director of the Crisis Nursery in Effingham.

Their roles are more than a job; it's a calling. They celebrate victories, and stand strong beside those in need, helping them to rise again. Through patience, empathy, and unwavering belief in human resilience, they help transform lives. Heartland Human Services is blessed to have Britt and Meghan on the Board of Directors. Their knowledge and expertise are invaluable and greatly appreciated.

As we have celebrated our social workers this week, we are thankful for the quiet heroes who remind us that kindness, understanding, and persistence can change the course of a life. Thank you to Sabrina, Afthan, Anna, Erica, Britt & Meghan!

Today, I want to shine a light on someone whose work is changing lives....Erica is a dedicated social worker who serves as both a Substance Abuse Counselor and a therapist.

Every day, Erica meets clients in some of their most vulnerable moments, offering not just professional guidance, but compassion and hope. She helps clients navigate the challenges of recovery, and reminds them that healing is possible....one step....one choice, one day at a time.

Thank you, Erica! We are so happy you are on the HHS Team!

As we continue to celebrate National Social Work Month, I would like to introduce you to our Director of Services, Anna. Anna has responsibility for our Supervised Residential Homes, PSR, and I&A.
She also continues to see clients as an LCSW.

Why did Anna become a social worker? I'll let her tell you.

"As an individual with a history of passive suicidal ideation and personal trauma, I am so privileged to honor and support other human in their own journey to mental health wellness. I am so thankful for every mental health professional in the field that has taught me something about who I am and how I can give back to clients and my community here in Effingham County."

Thanks Anna! You are awesome!

March is National Social Work Month. "It's a time to celebrate advocacy, healing, resilience, and change. Social work is more than a profession. It's a commitment to people. Thank you to every social worker making an impact."

We would like to introduce our amazing social workers on staff at Heartland Human Service. Each will tell you why they chose a career in social work. Today, meet Sabrina.

"I have always loved helping others. I have struggled with my own mental health challenges and understand how difficult they can be. I wanted to help others who struggle and to help provide more education on mental health. Life is hard - there is not enough kindness, so in a world where I can be anything, I choose to be kind."

Thank you, Sabrina, for all you do for our clients. You are always a breath of fresh air!

Empowering people to improve Health and Wellness

Heartland Human Services is the result of the efforts of a caring and concerned community. In the 1960s, community leaders realized counseling services for mental illness and addictions treatment were lacking in rural areas.

The State of Illinois made a commitment to help communities improve their quality of life by establishing a tax levy for the support of mental health services and addictions treatment. Effingham county leaders and voters were farsighted enough to pass such a tax levy by referendum in 1969, thus providing funding for community based behavioral healthcare services. In 1970 a non-profit corporation was established under the directorship of a local board of directors to oversee the development of a full continuum of behavioral healthcare services. They named this new entity the Effingham County Mental Health Center.

Over the years Heartland Human Services has changed names and grown from its simple beginnings to provide a broad array of behavioral healthcare services. Heartland Human Services receives funding from a wide variety of state and federal sources and is accredited by The Joint Commission.

Vision Statement: To lead our community by Integrating Health and Wellness for people of all ages.
