El Campo Derby Doll Booster Club "Once a Doll, Always a Doll" HOW THE DERBY WAS BORN! The Derby hats were first worn in 1967 as the El Campo Ricebirds made the State football finals.

Phil Zlotnick (Zlotnick's Dept. Store) first bought five red Derby's to sell in the finalist race. He increased the orders by 100's each week as the Ricebirds went into play-off's, Bi-Dist, Silsbee, Seguin, and State-Brownwood. His final order was over 5,000 for the Brownwood game. Maggie Little took Phil's Derby home from the first game and made the sequin band. When the Derby Doll's were organized in 1970 the title stuck. Phil's daughter, Terri was in the group for three years until she graduated in 1974.
