Delayed milestones:

Infants: Difficulty rolling over, sitting up, crawling, or walking by expected ages.

Toddlers: Clumsy movements, trouble climbing stairs, avoiding physical activities, or difficulty throwing and catching balls.

Recognizing the signs that your child may need Speech Therapy can be a bit tricky, especially during early development. Here are some key indicators to watch for:

Delayed babbling or first words: By 12 months, most children should be babbling and using a few simple words.

Limited vocabulary: At 2 years old, a typical child should have around 50 words and can begin forming simple sentences.

By 3 years, their vocabulary should expand to around 200 words and they should be using complex sentences.

Mispronunciations: It's normal for young children to mispronounce some sounds, but persistent incorrect pronunciation of most sounds (such as "th" or "r") past a certain age may require intervention.

Stuttering: If your child stutters consistently for more than 6 months or their stuttering disrupts communication, consult a speech therapist.

Compulsive behaviors
Excessive handwashing or cleaning: Trying to get rid of germs or prevent bad things from happening.
Checking and rechecking: Constantly making sure doors are locked, lights are off, or homework is perfect.

Additional signs:
Anxiety and distress: Children with OCD often experience significant anxiety and distress related to their obsessions and compulsions.

Important things to keep in mind:

Recognizing Sensory and Processing Issues (SPI) in children can be challenging, as every child experiences the world differently and symptoms can vary widely.

However, here are some common signs to look for:

❤️ Over-responsiveness to sensory input:

❤️ Auditory: Dislike of loud noises, startled easily by sounds, difficulty focusing in noisy environments.

❤️ Visual: Squinting or covering eyes in bright light, strong aversion to certain textures or patterns, easily distracted by visual stimuli.

❤️ Tactile: Dislike of being touched, picky eating due to texture sensitivities, avoiding certain clothes or shoes.

❤️ Taste and Smell: Picky eating due to strong reactions to specific tastes or smells, gagging easily.
Proprioceptive: Clumsy or awkward movements, difficulty with balance and coordination, bumping into things.

Ready for some fun? Join us Mondays, 5:30 - 7 p.m. at THE VILLAGE for Game Night!

Our Social Skills Group is perfect for neurodivergent individuals aged 12-22. Your child will gain communication skills, boost their self-esteem, and make friends all while having a blast.

Our VILLAGE trained Therapists and Team Members are here every week for your child to hang out, play video games, and enjoy some pizza and soda.
It's the perfect opportunity to be social and have fun at the same time!
