Edward Ray Jones, affectionately known as "Ray," was born January 20, 1960, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to the late Topsie F. Thomas and Dossie Thomas Jones. He was the sixth of eight children in a close-knit and loving family.

Ray received his education in the El Dorado School District and proudly graduated from El Dorado High School in 1978.

Guided by his faith, he was baptized into Christ at Cargile Street Church of Christ El Dorado, Arkansas, where he remained a devoted member throughout his life.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Topsie F. Thomas and Dossie Thomas Jones; his stepfather Willie Thomas; one sister, Sarah Coleman; and three brothers, Willie Morris, Elisha Morris and Clarence Morris.
