The purpose of Perioperative Nurses Week is to recognize and celebrate the significant achievements and contributions of perioperative registered nurses to the medical field.

These nurses play a vital role in patient care by:
* Advocating for patients throughout their surgical journey.
* Providing specialized nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
* Maintaining a sterile environment in the operating room to ensure patient safety.
* Working as key members of the surgical team, often in roles such as scrub nurses or circulating nurses.

The event, established by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), is a time for hospitals and communities to acknowledge the dedication, skill, and compassion of these healthcare professionals who ensure safe surgery and a smooth recovery process for patients.
