In the weeks between Passover and Shavuot, a plague raged among the disciples of the great sage Rabbi Akiva. On Lag BaOmer, the dying ceased. Now, no weddings or ceremonies are permitted during this time as it is a time of mourning. It's customary to light bonfires on the eve of Lag BaOmer. Learn more about the tradition
