🛁 January is National Bath Safety Month 🛁

This is the perfect time to make sure your home’s water heater is set to a safe temperature. Hot tap water can cause serious burns in seconds, especially for young children.

✅ What’s the safe setting?
Set your water heater to 120°F (49°C) to help prevent scald injuries.

🔍 How to check it:
• Look at your water heater’s temperature dial (many show degrees or a “hot/warm” range)
• Run hot water for 1 minute and use a kitchen thermometer to check the temperature

🔧 How to adjust it:
• Turn the dial down to 120°F (or “warm” if not labeled)
• Wait a few hours, then recheck the tap temperature
• If your heater is older, unmarked, or you’re unsure how to adjust it safely, contact your landlord, maintenance team, or a licensed professional

A quick check today can make bath time much safer for little ones 💙

Does it feel like your toddler catches everything? 🤧 You’re not imagining it!

Little immune systems are still learning, and toddlers are excellent germ-sharers, especially in daycare or group settings. It’s normal for young kids to have 8–12 viral illnesses a year, especially in fall and winter.

Those colds can feel back-to-back because viruses stack or symptoms overlap.

The good news? Each illness helps strengthen their immune system, and most pass with rest, fluids, and time. 💪

If your child’s illnesses seem unusually severe, very frequent, or they’re not bouncing back like expected, give us a call. We’re happy to help you figure out what’s normal and what needs a closer look. 🌱

🥛 Happy National Milk Day!

Calcium plays a big role in strong bones and healthy growth, but when it comes to milk, balance matters!

✨ Recommended daily milk intake:
• Toddlers (1–3): 2 cups/day
• Kids (4–8): 2–2.5 cups/day
• Older kids & teens: 3 cups/day

More isn’t always better! Too much milk can fill kids up, cause constipation, or even lead to low iron levels.

🥬 Non-dairy options count too! Fortified plant milks, yogurt alternatives, leafy greens, cheese, and tofu can all help meet calcium needs.

Not sure if your child is getting the right amount of calcium or milk? Ask us at your next visit—we’re happy to help!

Bundled too much… or not enough? ❄️👶

During the winter, babies usually need one more layer than an adult would wear to be comfy in the same room. A breathable onesie + a sleep sack is often just right. 💤

Safe sleep reminders ⬇️
• Skip hats, blankets, and loose bedding in the crib
• Overheating can increase SIDS risk
• Feel your baby’s chest—if it’s warm and dry, they’re dressed perfectly
• Cold hands and feet are totally normal

Not sure if your baby is dressed right for sleep? 📞 Call us—we’re always here to help keep your little one safe and cozy. 🌱

✨ Happy New Year from Desert Bloom Pediatrics! ✨

New Year’s resolutions don’t have to be big or overwhelming, especially for families! This is the perfect time to choose small, meaningful goals you can work on together.

💛 Try ideas like:
• Adding one extra family meal each week
• Taking evening walks together
• Ending the day with a simple “gratitude moment”

Family resolutions help kids learn goal-setting, teamwork, and follow-through in a positive, supportive way.

👇 Share one of your family’s New Year’s resolutions in the comments—we’d love to cheer you on!

🌸✨ Growing up comes with big changes — and that’s totally normal! Grade-schoolers may start noticing early signs of puberty like growth spurts or changes in body shape.

👧 Girls: Puberty usually begins between 8–13 years, often starting with breast development, followed by p***c hair and a growth spurt.
👦 Boys: Puberty typically starts between 9–14 years, beginning with testicular enlargement, then p***c hair and a growth spurt.

Every child grows at their own pace — and that’s okay. 💛 Open, honest conversations about their bodies, privacy, and healthy habits can help kids feel confident and supported.

🌼 Well visits are the perfect time to check in on puberty changes and ask questions about what’s normal and what to expect.
