As an acupuncturist, I can’t help but feel a little spark of excitement as we enter the Year of the Horse.
In East Asian medicine, the Horse carries the energy of movement, vitality, and forward momentum. It’s yang, it’s warm, it’s expressive — like Qi that’s finally flowing freely after being gently unblocked. The Horse doesn’t inch forward… it runs. It reminds us that circulation is life: blood, breath, ideas, creativity, purpose.
The Horse is also deeply connected to the Fire element and the Heart — joy, connection, spirit (Shen). This is a year to let yourself be seen a little more. To follow what feels alive. To move your body. To say yes to what quickens your pulse.
But like any strong yang year, it also asks for balance. Even the strongest horse needs rest, nourishment, and clear direction. In clinic, I think of this as supporting the Heart while anchoring it — tending to sleep, hydration, minerals, nervous system regulation. We don’t just run; we regulate.
So as this year unfolds, I’m inviting my patients (and myself) to ask:
Where is my Qi ready to move?
What has been waiting for momentum?
And how can I support my system so that when I run, I run well?
Here’s to a year of healthy circulation, courageous expression, and steady, joyful forward motion. 🐎
