We had the pleasure of hosting University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine student Taylor Parker for the past few weeks!

During her time with us she:
😷Participated in a large amount of small animal surgeries (routine and traumatic)
🐾 Triaged small animal emergencies
🐎 Evaluated and blocked out lameness
🐴Assisted and made a treatment plan for a choke case on a horse
🦌Assisted sample collection on an Eland (Antelope species)
🦙Assisted in monthly check and deworming on an alpaca herd
🩺 Helped with routine wellness and sick visits for large and small animals

She got a true mixed animal experience! Taylor was a joy to have with us and we are excited to watch her continue to grow her knowledge and skills as she continues her clinical studies!

Hoping all of our wonderful clients had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends! We are closed and will reopen for normal business hours Monday December 1 at 8am. We do a have a vet on call for large animal emergencies for our current clients — the number is on our clinic voicemail as usual.

What you need to know:

-We are monitoring updates on the situation and will post as we know more developments.

-Try not to travel at this time, but if you must, a health certificate is required prior to traveling as opposed to using an EECVI if you usually utilize that tool for traveling.

-If you are concerned about exposure you can take re**al temperatures on your horses twice daily to watch for a fever.

We are monitoring an outbreak of Equine Herpesvirus Type 1 (EHV-1), including Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM), associated with equine events in Oklahoma and Texas. There have been no reports of EHV-1/EHM in Georgia at this time.

GDA is advising horse owners who have attended an equine event in Texas or Oklahoma, within the last 3 weeks, to contact their veterinarian, isolate their horses, and implement twice daily temperature monitoring under the guidance of their veterinarian.
