Understanding early labor can make a huge difference in how your entire birth experience unfolds.

Many first-time moms believe labor only “counts” once contractions are intense, but early labor is where your cervix softens, thins, and begins to dilate. This stage helps baby find an optimal position, supports a smoother labor timeline, and reduces the need for unnecessary interventions.

Most families feel calmer and more confident when they know what early labor looks like, how long it can last, and when to stay home vs. when to go in. Education is one of the strongest tools you can bring into birth, especially if you’re hoping for an unmedicated or low-intervention delivery.

It’s the first hour after birth... that quiet, sacred window when your baby meets you earthside for the very first time.

"The day I went into labor, Grace came to my house right away and supported me through extremely painful contractions. We transitioned to the birth center and I eventually opted for a hospital transfer for pain management. I didn’t have the birth I had hoped for, but I couldn’t imagine going through all of that without Grace by our side. She kept me calm and sane in the midst of the hardest 3 days of my life. Grace made sure I was comfortable, heard, and properly cared for.

Once the baby arrived and we were back home, Grace and her team supported me through a very tough couple weeks while I adjusted to life as a new mom. Having Grace and Arianne come to my house for multiple check ins was a blessing during a dark time.
